I really enjoyed that, D_D. YOu captured the spirit of the place as well as the look of it. Well done. I spent an entire year in PEI, but never got to NFLD. My loss. Thanks for taking the time to put the video together. R ::008:: ::026::

At least two more days would have been better. Wish we could have made it up north to see the iceberg. Do you know of any pictures that have been posted of that big one? I've looked around but not found any.

I had to laugh at the perception of heat in Nova Scotia. It was a lovely 25c as we were heading out of Nova Soctia. My wife and I just got done saying what a perfect weather day it was. Stopped for gas, walked into pay and one of the two girls behind counter said, "hot enough for you?" It was an amusing moment for me considering it was 36c at home that day.

I can't imagine when there will be a next time, at least not on a bike. As Trevor said, 16 days was really not enough time. I completely agree. Unfortunately, I don't expect to be able to put that much time off together again anytime soon.

Thanks, rem. You really missed something by not getting up there. The place is truly different. I've been in and out of eastern Canada most of my life. I like it up there, but never felt it was all that different from home. Very familiar feeling to me. Newfoundland was really something different. I knew the moment I made my first contact with a local along the Irish Loop. I had stopped to ask a question and the clerk answered with a heavy Irish accent that left me stunned. Followed quickly by another patron who chimed in with an even heavier accent that offered more advice. I thought to myself, "holy crap, where am I?" I went outside, shook my head trying to clear it and just said, "Wow, we're in trouble. I can't understand anyone here."

It was awesome. The people are great, the sights are stunning, the weather was cool and comfortable (to us). If you ever get the chance I highly recommend it.

The Movie/Slide Show made that one of best Ride Reports I've ever read.
Thanks

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. For me it was one of those trips that deserved some effort to preserve the memory and feeling of the place.

Excellent ride report on NF...myself and 5 others did The Rock a few years ago on a loop west to east on the Trans-Lab...when we arrived in NF we were greeted everywhere we went and treated so well we did'nt want to leave. We had one guy who was actually upset that we did'nt stay in his seaside cabin as we wanted to get a little closer to the morning ferry for our next day reservation. The people of Newfoundland are the kindest I've ever met. Oh yeah, scenery is pretty cool as well. Don't miss Blow Me Down by the Sea Provincial Park just north of Gros Morne as well. That is one roadside sign picture that will always remain on my computer..

We only made it as far north of Gros Morne as Cow Head. It was windy as hell up there, so I can guess why they called it "Blow Me Down by the Sea." That's a pretty great name. The other interesting name I saw was this one.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt obligated to take a Dildo picture.

When you put up this report I didn't know enough about Newfoundland to even know what I was looking at. Now that I have started to research Going there, I used the map to follow along with your trip and it was much more interesting. Michelle lived there when she was little and a few weeks ago I ask her if she would like to ride to Newfoundland, she said yes so I thought I'd better find out somthing about it. Nice job on the R.R. and pictures. And Movie. ::012:: Steve

Thanks. I understand exactly what you are saying. When Trevor first mentioned the place to me I knew nothing about it. Only after the research did I start to become intrigued about the island. Even after weeks of research the actual trip was far beyond my expectations. I'm sure you've been to places where you look around and realize how inadequate a camera is to capture what you're experiencing. Newfoundland is definitely one of those places.

If you haven't done it yet, be sure to order the travel info from here: http://www.newfoundlandlabrador.com/ Invaluable to planning and I used it everyday while there. Ride the rock http://ridetherock.com is a great riding resource. And I was fortunate to have a local Tenere rider and member here who gave me the inside info.

Enjoy your research. If there's anything I can help with please feel free to ask. We both loved it.

Looking forward to seeing your ride report.

A cool place, we hit NewFoundland on a trip to do the trans-labrador highway last year. 7500 miles in 21 days. Nebraska through New England to Canada and hitting all the eastern Canadian provinces and back though Quebec to Niagra falls visiting the Manic dams. I believe it was in Newfoundland where we did 200 miles of an abandoned narrow gauge rail line that was turned into an ATV/UTV trail. This was before my preordered Tenere had shipped yet, so I did it on 03 BMW 650 dakar that I bought just for the trip and sold right after.

Thanks Dirt Dad, I just ordered that Travel Brochure.

sfc67 I don't know enough about it yet to have any questions. I'll have to do a lot of reading this winter.

terryth If I remember right you left on your trip just about the time our bikes were coming in. I had that same thing happen on my Alaska trip.
