Hi everyone,

I don't have bike yet, but planning to purchase a Super Tenere in the next 4 months to explore western Canada. Just moved to Alberta last year and the mountains and unpaved roads are ideal for an adventure bike. Been looking for almost a year and after countless hours of research, I have firmly decided on the ST. Thankful for all the posts on this forum.

Good luck finding one, perhaps used but new that might not happen soon.
Was at Yamaha Dealer in Kelowna talking to sales manager and they have not had an S10 for almost 2 years, 2020 model was last stock they had that sold immediately and do not know when they will have one.
In the last month he has had 2 customers asking for S10 and he cannot get anything. Supposedly there are non in BC available. Hope for better luck in Alberta.
He also told me he would gladly take mine for very good money if I'm interested in selling it. Very unusual offer from a dealer.

BTW, if you can not find anything I might know someone in Calgary that might sell his. I would have to ask to make sure though. Its a 2015 ES model, silver blue color.

Welcome, from Texas. Good luck with your search. I'm guessing it's cost prohibitive to get one in the U.S. and take it home?

There are a few new ones available in the west. I actually found a new 2018 in BC for a really good price, but it is not an ES model.

Yes, with the exchange rate, registrar of imported vehicles red tape, inspections, etc. It is not only cost prohibitive, but labor intensive as well. There is also an issue that any modifications done to a vehicle from the manufacturers specs can render it inadmissible, including addition of aftermarket equipment...

Does that include bags, crash bars, and such? 'Cuz, I remember when I was in CA, I was riding my SECA and was told by a CHiP that my engine modifications were illegal. Specifically, my 4-into-1 Kerker exhaust and air filters. It made sense since it pertained to emissions, but other stuff seems odd.

The main problem is that it is open to interpretation. Someone who is very knowledgeable about it, and motorbikes, can call it. Most will not care or know the difference between whether it is stock or not, and what mods would render a vehicle inadmissable. Most bolt-ons would be additions and not change the factory specs, but performance mods (exhaust, suspension, intake, etc) that replace anything stock could definitely be a problem. I had a friend who had to turn a Harley Trike back into stock because it was a trike kit, put on at the dealer, not in manufacturing. They had to purchase all the stock parts on Ebay and second hand. Once it was imported and registered, they changed it back to a trike. Another time, someone purchased a used Mercedes car from the US and had it shipped to Canada. That particular model was not admissable, even in stock trim and it ended up being returned and resold at a huge loss.
