Well, for me, the '14 tensioner got rid of the start up clatter, gave me a 15-2000rpm clatter in exchange. It was blissfully silent for about a hundred miles, then, 'wait, what was that! Just there! A new/old noise! Damn.' I was depressed. :(
The '14 tensioner went in slick. I almost lost the timing with the manual one. It was a close thing.

Does the warranty still in place when a manual tensioner is used?

I'm no lawyer or expert, but my understanding is that unless the aftermarket part (the manual tensioner in this case) is the direct cause of a failure, the warranty coverage is still valid.

LOL, and I'm pretty sure I'd need a lawyer to argue that in a court. Them: Judge, that infernal manual device definitively caused that swing arm bearing to fail...
