Hi there. Welcome here and congrats on the ST purchase. For the windshield, you might want to look at Madstaad Engineering (adjustable windshield brackets and larger windshields too). You can use the bracket on your stock screen as its adjustable for height (about 3") and fore and aft as well. About $139. I just ordered one and will see if this cures the wind buffeting. Then some here say that if you add the Yamaha wings (side wind deflectors) they really help and do the job. I will do this if the adj. bracket on the stock shield is not enough.
Also to keep warm, you might want to get heated liners (jacket, pant, sock) and heated gloves.. Just plug in and ride nice and toasty. No need for heated grips.
If you get a battery tender, you should be able to start the bike in the cold garage. I have one and my garage is insulated but still cold. Bike always starts. During the winter months, I park it on a piece of carpeting so its not on the cold cement floor. Then its plugged in so when the weather is nice outside (no salt or crap on the roads) I can go out and ride. Anyway, you have all winter to think, read here, and buy whatever you think is for you. Enjoy!
