Thanks to everyone that helped me with my questions in previous threads I had started. Last night I picked up my new 2013 Tenere Matte Grey. OTD was $12995 which included tax (7%), tag, title, the BS dealer fees, 5 years of YES warranty, and $1200 in accessories which will be ordered on Tuesday (Parts department closed already).
Parts list I gave to sales guy. Puts my $91 over the $1200 but will pay the difference.
PIAA LP530 LED light kit
PIAA universal bracket mount kit
Engine Guards
Tall windshield
Wind Deflectors
Skid plate.
Took a 50 mile ride this morning to feel it out. I am coming from a Tiger 800XC so these are my comparisons.
Tenere feels bigger and feels heavier. Suspension more street orientated though I haven't adjusted it yet or set sag/com/rebound. The tigers front suspension is non adjustable but I had it set up with new springs and oil weight. Tigers suspension is more plush as one would expect from a dirt bike. Overall I think the Tenere's suspension will suit my riding better than the tigers. I am a heavier rider so I may need to respring it, at least the rear. I am looking to load this up and make cross country trips.
Power: Loving the grunt of the Tenere. More kick in the pants from down low. Noticeable difference in T and S modes, not sure it will ever see T mode. Very smooth cruising in 6th at 60mph. The Tiger has good power but it is more linear. Think I am going to really like the Tenere in this aspect. Throttle seems a little jerky though, just have to get used to it. Have to read up on the ECU flash that wakes the bike up.
Seating position - I had to add risers to the Tiger. I am not sure I will need to with the Tenere. Though I may rock the bars toward me a bit, might be all it needs. Has anyone used risers with the Tenere? Seat - First impression is comfortable. No hard pinch points. However after 50 miles I will be needing my air hawk. May need that RDL. My arse doesn't like any stock seat.
Overall riding - I would be real hesitant taking this on any serious off road adventures for fear on damaging it. I am sure I will get over that though once I learn the characteristics of the bike. On the road I love how the Tenere handles. Brakes...awesome. Yamaha got that almost perfect. Brakes on the Tiger don't even compare. Tenere holds a line very well and is very smooth. It feels more like true sport touring bike with off road capability. Where the tiger feels like a bike built for the off road but tries to handle touring and doesn't really excel at either one.
Those are my assessments after my small 50 mile ride. I am curious to how my opinions will change once I really get to ride it and see what it can do. So far, I think the Tenere wins out and I won't be disappointed in letting the Tiger go. Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on the Tenere.
Have to drive back up to the dealer next weekend to pick up the parts they are ordering. Overall dealer experience was blah. I am big on customer service and they have no idea what that is. Wont be recommending them to anyone I know. Have to find a local shop for any work that needs to be done.
Cant wait to do some touring!
