My 2013 matte gray Tenere is now just over a week old.... and I'm loving having a new bike for the first time in 29 years. I commute 34 miles round trip here in the San Francisco Bay Area every day down 101 - lane splitting for the first few miles and then blasting along at 75 or so along with the rest of the carpool lane, and the Tenere is making my daily drives fun again.
I've owned several motorcycles; my previous bike was/is a 1985 Nighthawk (shafty, 700 cc). It was time to move up to something a bit bigger that would allow me to do more exploring and distance riding; I've ridden the Nighthawk on fire roads but it was kind of squirrelly and the lack of suspension travel was pretty limiting.
In order to try out the Tenere, I rented one for 24 hours up in SF and put 330 miles on it riding the mountain roads between the Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz. This was a big success, and when the reduced pricing came out on the 2013 models I went for it.
Since I've been commuting for quite a while with the Nighthawk, I know what I like - loud horns and bright lights! I've already ordered and received Hella SuperTone horns and a Rigid 6" driving LED light bar, along with a Centech AP-1 fuse box and an Autoswitch to control the LED light. As soon as I have some weekend time, those are going on the bike. I'm considering doing another headlight modulator, but I think I'll wait until I see how folks react to the light bar during daylight. It's so nice having 600W rather than 280W . I've also ordered a set of Rumbux guards & skid plate, but those won't be here for a while. I'm seriously considering the Jesse 105l panniers.
