Just wanted to post up to confirm I’m not a bot or spammer and make sure the mods don’t delete my account…LOL

I recently sold my 2018 MT09 because I’m planning a cross country trip (Bay Area, CA-Charleston, SC), and even though I absolutely loved the MT, it wouldn’t cut the mustard for such a journey…for me anyway.

I signed up here so I could read up on the bike before I made my final decision. At first I was all over the place between bike choices…Super Tenere, V-Storm, Africa Twin, BMW 1200 GS, Triumph Tiger, FJR1300, Councours. I finally wound it down to the FJR or the S10. I couldn’t find a low mile 2016+ FJR anywhere and a S10 with excellent upgrades popped up on CL in my area. After seeing it in person I knew it was the one!…

So... here’s my new steed. It’s a one owner 2012 model in absolutely like new condition. It also has top of the line Traxxion Dynamics AK20 fork cartridges and a Penske 8983 shock, which was a major selling point for me. The tires are Anakee wild’s so I’m actively searching for something more road oriented and higher mileage. I hope there’s a tire out there that I can put about 6K miles on without having to change them during the trip. I’m open for suggestions. I also want to add a GPS and LED headlight bulb/auxiliary fogs since I ride to work early on a backroad while it’s still dark and there’s lots of kamikaze critters around…

Looking forward to learning all I can about this awesome machine and logging many, many, miles…

Here are a coupla pics. Thanks to Chris for the awesome deal and for being such a meticulous owner…

As far as suggestions for an auxiliary LED light, I installed one of these and am very happy with it. The space uner the stock headlights is the perfect location in my opinion as it won't be broken off if the bike gets dropped. Also, there are four mounting holes underneath the removable plastic piece that sits there now, and it is close to the battery and electronics. This one is from Black Oak LED. It is at least $100 dollars cheaper than Baja Designs and Rigid Industries. It is very solid and appears to be well made. I made my own mounting bracket.

Welcome. Nice bike for your great sounding journey. I fitted my S10 with Michellin Road 6s. Excellent all road tire. Not an aggressive dirt tire at all.

Welcome from Northern Illinois. There are tires that are very good on gravel that will easily go 6,000 miles. Motoz, Dunlop Trail Max are two manufacturers that I have personally seen go the distance. That Dunlop will get you all the way to SC and back and handle gravel just fine too.

Welcome aboard and congratulations on finding a very nice deal on a used Tenere close to your home !
I highly recommend Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires, many folks report over 20,000 miles on a set, my current set has over 16,000 miles and look like they should make 20,000 miles pretty easily.
They ain’t cheap I paid Revzilla $440 for my third set a couple weeks ago, that’s about $40 more than I paid a little over year ago.

If I can get even 10,000 out of a set of tires I'd be happy. I'll definitely look into the Dunlop Trailmax Mission. Thanks for the suggestion...

I went for my first real ride today and I gotta say this bike is awesome! Not as peppy as my MT09, that's for sure. But the suspension feels soooo plush. And the aftermarket seat feels really nice too. I can't wait to start logging some serious miles...
