I have never regretted not getting an ES myself, I have never had an issue with the suspension on mine with or without my wife on the back! And yes heated grips is the only way to go! They are actually control thru the menu switch on the left side controls! I use them all the time!

Re: Want to buy: 2014 or 2015 Tenere

Now that I've found my bike, I'll take a moment to introduce myself.

I've been riding for the past 23 years - most of the time on pavement, 6 years ago a friend left his KLR 650 with me while he was deployed to Iraq and that got me into into getting off pavement. I bought myself an Aprilia Caponord 1000 and loved every minute of my 6 years of ownership. I sold it thinking I wanted to get back to a sport-tourer, but I didn't really get on with the Concours. 2.5 years ago I added a Yamaha WR250R to my garage and have had a blast taking it on the sand roads, ATV trails, and single track near our cottage in Traverse City, MI.

I've owned a long list of motorcycles:

1974 Honda CB550 Four
1993 Honda Nighthawk 750
2001 Honda VFR800FI
2001 Honda CBR1100XX
2002 Aprilia Caponord ETV1000
1996 Honda ST1100
2007 Kawasaki KLR 650
2008 Yamaha WR250R
1983 Honda Sabre VF700
1993 Yamaha XT225
2007 KTM 525 EXC
2002 Aprilia Falco SL1000
2013 Kawasaki Concours 1400
2014 Yamaha Super Tenere ES

Anyhow, thanks to this forum I found the Tenere I was searching for over the past 2 months. Best part is that it was local and I was able to meet the owner, see it in person, and ride it home with confidence. I've only put about 100 miles on it, but I'm very happy with my decision to pick one up.

Since picking up my Tenere, I've put over 600 miles on it. I have to say, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase!

I owned an Aprilia Caponord for 6 years and 22K miles. I absolutely loved that bike, with its Italian flaws and all. I spent many hours in the garage, preemptively fixing the known flaws, and it never let me down. I looked forward to every chance I had to ride it (even with 5 other bikes in the garage during those 6 years).

I sold it because even with a Sargent seat built to my specs, my tailbone would always ache after riding it more than 3 hours straight. I played with handlebar angle, bought an Airhawk seat pad, saw a spine specialist, and could never resolve the pain. I replaced the Capo with a Concours 14 thinking the forward lean would eliminate the pain, but the C14 just didn't do anything for me. As insanely fast as it was, I was bored on it. And, my tailbone would still ache after a long ride.

In the Tenere, I think I found a good replacement for my beloved Capo. I did a 230 mile ride a week ago and had no tailbone pain when I got off the bike (stock seat with the bumper mod). I love looking at the Tenere, and anytime I ride it, I feel completely engaged in the experience. I have a feeling I'm going to own this one for a long time.

I had a chance to take a lunchtime ride yesterday on possibly the last really nice day of 2016 in Chicago. But, I'll keep riding it until there is snow on the road!
