I'm actively shopping for a 2nd generation Tenere and figured it wouldn't hurt to post a "want to buy" ad here. I've recently sold 3 bikes and have cash in hand.

I'm just outside Chicago and could pull a trailer to pick something up if it's within a day drive, but I am open to shipping if you are open to working with a shipper.

I seem to be leaning towards an ES but I'd like to hear about any '14 or '15 you are thinking of parting with. I'd prefer low miles and excellent condition.

Thanks!
Britt

No dog in this but look at CycleTrader using your zip code and 100 miles. Several there to choose from. Unless you are looking for a private seller, that's where I would start.

BBK in Elgin had a new Grey/Blue trim non ES showing $11,999. Not sure what additional fees there would be. Agree best value is used private party. Finding an ES may just take longer if you are patient.

Good luck Britt. I know used 2nd Gen bikes in this area are not common. I spent the better part of this year waiting and finally gave up and bought a new 2015 from a dealer. Got a pretty good deal. Let me know if you end up getting one. You are just down the road. I live in Aurora, but work in Naperville.

Happy hunting! ::004::

I have a 2016 ES with side cases and tank bag.
It has about 5000 miles.
Send me a PM and we will discuss the bike.

Sorry folks - I wasn't notified of replies to this, but I turned on notifications going forward!

I'll take a look at anything that's for sale - thanks to those that posted links.

I stopped at BBK in Elgin and looked at the matte silver and blue one. They're offering it for $12,700 out the door. It is on my radar but is bone stock so I'm considering the cost of heated grips, luggage, crash bars, etc...

I'm also having discussions with the seller of a 14 ES with Yamaha luggage and crash bar in Naperville. He started as $12K and raised it to $14K, and has now come down to $13K. Seems like I could do better, especially with snow coming soon!

Re: Cycle Trader. Willy World in Joliet is nearby and has a red ES that I looked at on Friday. Nice but the best price they could offer is $14,800 out the door. Again, I'm considering the cost of stuff I'd add to it.

I'm not rushing to put a bike in my garage, but I am ready to buy once I feel I've done all my homework and find the right bike. Thanks again folks, I will be in touch if you have one for sale that I'd like more info on...

Depending on the miles and condition that's not too bad, might keep trying. IMHO the miles don't mean so much as condition and maintenance, including tires, if you are going to keep it for a while. Mine came with close to 19k miles but did have the additional assurance of YES, and more farkles. I don't pile on the miles like prior owner, but I will be facing the 27K valve check quicker than I would have with lower miles. I did use the higher miles to negotiate lower than some of the others at the time.

You might also want to talk to the guys at DuPage Yamaha. That is where I bought mine. I think they typically have an ES and non ES in stock.

Thanks. Haven't been there in many years. I'll make a point to stop in.

This local ES has only 1,900 miles and a new set of Heidenau K60 Scout tires on it. Yamaha crash bars and panniers. It looks great... but man what a turn-off to have the price go UP after we start talking!

But it's only about 15 miles from me so I keep going back to it. I've been spending a lot of time looking at all options and am not quite ready to buy it until I'm certain I'm making a good choice.

Doesn't sound like a terrible deal, but I agree with you. That is not cool to raise the price once you start talking. With those accessories and miles I think a fair price would be $11K - $12K I would think. It sounds like this owner did not get much use out of this bike and is trying to recoup all of their costs. The problem is like with most things, you don't get all of your $$ back on accessories when you sell. Is it still under warranty?

He didn't mention the warranty so I'm not sure about that. I'm not real concerned with warranty repairs on a Yamaha but I realize a warranty does increase the value.

This one is matte grey which I hated at first, but while shopping it has really grown on me. I've been talking to another couple of sellers with matte grey non-ES's and those are on my radar as well. I'm trying to decide if I'll kick myself later for not getting the ES. I can see the appeal to having it (and the heated grips) but I don't know how often I'd be changing my suspension if I had it. I always ride solo, and occasionally load up the luggage.

If it were me, I'd make him a written offer and leave a phone number. Let him take it from there. More fish in the sea so to speak...

I ended up going with the non ES and don't regret it. I guess I don't miss what i don't have though? ??? I think the bike suspension is pretty easy to tweak manually and from what I hear, most people that have the ES don't change it much really. Maybe if you keep switching between full gear and totally empty it would come in really handy. I am a pretty big guy, so I may end up beefing up the springs/shocks in the future but so far it has been good for me.

I guess, there have been a few mornings when I did miss not having the heated grips though!! I can always add the OEM heated grips from what I understand. Not sure on the price, but I am pretty sure they are plug and play.

I've learned the heated grips are plug and play and can be controlled through your dash. That's really cool. They aren't cheap though! But I won't own a bike again without heated grips on it.

I'm still flipping back and forth on the ES. I like the idea of having the buttons to change my suspension for spirited riding on smooth roads, and tackling gravel or dirt roads out in the Illinois farm lands. But I never changed it on my Caponord and I rode that bike everywhere so I probably don't need it.

I have used the heated grips more frequently than the adjustable suspension. I believe plug and play OEM parts are just over $200, but dealer installed more like $400. If you plan to add the heated grips anyway, then I would go all the way with an ES. I figure the ES's will re-sell easier. I have used the suspension adjustment more frequently (for both loads and road conditions) than I would have changed manually, just because it is so easy.

That is a great point. I don't normally stop and whip out a screwdriver every time I go down a different road or load up. I probably would if all I had to do is hit a button.
