isn't that price a little moot considering he wants to trade two
bikes in on the new one? The dealer could easily drop the price on the super but give next to nothing on the trades? Maybe I`m reading this wrong ..Its 6am my time lol
That's it exactly. He said he was trading 2 bikes. The only price that is important is the difference in trade. They can give you any price you want for the new bike and then adjust the trade values.

I'm speaking as a part time "vulture", as that is my part time retirement job. ;D They pay me to hang around a motorcycle dealership and talk to fellow enthusiasts about bikes. What a country!

If it helps make your decision easier, in Canada... the ES model will cost you $20,500 out the door after taxes, and thats with out any warranty or accessories... Hows that price looking to you now?

I've had the pleasure of visiting the place that lets you hang around. I'd let you vulture me if I was closer. ;)

Well...Well....Well..... The saga continues......
Got down to the nitty gritty on making the dealio. Mysteriously.....they wanted to give me $1500.00 less on my trades and somehow the price of the bike went up above the advertised price..... I walked. We're talking a 3 - 4 thousand dollar difference. I've learned a lot...One of the WORSE things I hate in life is negotiating. I REALLY hate negotiating the price of a vehicle. I've walked on sooo many dealios in my life because when they make me wait or filled my head with stuff that doesn't follow addition and subtraction. Also, when they try to overwhelm me with info. (numbers in particular) an alert goes off in my brain telling me to walk. The salesmen was upfront and realistic from the getgo. The sales manager filled me with great expectations. And I wonder....during the long waiting periods I was sitting on the bike I looking to get and someone came in to look at the bike and the sales manager gave him even a higher price than he gave me and the guy seemed really interested and asked me my opinion of the bike and said he might buy it. The thing is we talked about motorcycles and he told me of a recent crash he had and he was there getting his bike fixed from a 130 mph crash and there were too many inconsistent things in his story. This was a middle-age dude. That wasn't you, Sierra? ::025:: I truly wish that buying a vehicle was like buying something off the shelf at a store. I don't get why not? Other thing that happened...I became hungry after waiting so long and even tired. It made me lose some of my enthusiasm for the dealio. I lost even more because I spent about 8 hours defarkling my S10. Whoever came up with this business model to sell things needs their head examined! I had more conversations on the phone after leaving and I then offered to just trade my S10 and not my Honda VTX which is the bike they offered $1500.00 less than what they originally said. They didn't like my idear and said they REALLY needed to move that bike and that we were only $1900.00 apart with me trading in the VTX. I told them that was $1900 + $1500. They told me they really wanted to get me on that bike and they wanted the VTX (after telling me it was not worth as much when explaining the $1500.00 less than their original proposal) So now they WANT the VTX after telling me "it'll probably go to auction" at what they're giving me for it? Then said with both trades we're now $1900 apart. The bike they're selling comes with crash bars and a skid plate. I offered if they take the crash bars off and the skid plate, that can account for $1000.00. I'm still waiting to hear back about that proposal. Also, when initially talking to the sales manager; I ONLY wanted to find out the set-up, destination and processing charge. I was still in early number crunching and seeing if I could make it work within my finances. He then told me that they got the bike at a good dealio from another dealer and that the set-up, destination would be just about nothing because of this and they needed to move the bike. There are more moving parts to this but I didn't want to ramble on...

This kind of BS is why I avoid dealer's if at all possible. I would have bought MrVrooom's 15 if I could have made the timing work before it sold. Sell the others to private parties on craig's and be patient, you'll find one!

HA! If I had crashed at 130, I'd still be crying. I was talking to Harold, owner of Burleson Power Sports, Saturday. He said come on in, he still has the '16 & and a '17. I've had experiences like what you've described. I eventually learned that you have to be willing/able to walk out, for the salesman to stop playing games. IMO they use your desire for the purchase against you. They just wear you down 'till you give up. I am not a negotiator either. But I now research the fair prices for the new, and the trade-in. And how much I can afford.

I bought her! Her name is Ruby..... I wrote down on a piece of paper a breakdown of the costs and what I feel I should pay. I took a picture of what I wrote and texted it to the salesman. He presented it to the sales manager and agreed on $166.00 more than what I wrote. I accepted. So I had returned my 2005 Honda VTX 1300C which was heavily customized to stock and spent a day and a half doing this....And about 8 hours defarkling my 2012 S10. I didn't realize I had so many farkles on my 2012 Had to redo a lot of electric. Had the PDM60 which took some time. Altrider crash bars + skid plate weigh quite a bit! Took a lot of weight off the bike and surprising how different the bike rides without all the farkles! Feels less weighted down. Same with my Honda. Was sad taking my last ride on my Honda...Bike was good to me and many trouble free miles. Same with my 2012 Tenere. Had it for 5 months (shortest time I kept a bike) and liked it so much........I got the 2015!
The problems with the dealio started when the sales manager gave me 1 number for my Honda then changed the number by $1500.00 He told me after looking it up...the Honda was getting that much on the market. That is true and there are many of them for sale. I got the 2015 Tenere for $12999.00 + $410.00 tax + $800.00 destination, set-up, processing, etc. I got $9000.00 on the trade for my 2012 S10. Overall, I feel like I got a great dealio. Especially how much they gave me for the 2012 S10. I'm satisfied and I did look around and what I got is on par with other good deals. The dealership, Lone Star Yamaha formally known as Stadium Yamaha has changed owners and there is a LOT of highway construction choking their business and it is VERY difficult to get to their dealership due to the construction. Especially on a bike. Had to ride the new bike home in rush hour traffic on new tires. (From Irving to Downtown Ft. Worth for the locals) Ended up riding the bike for 100 miles last night. Didn't realize till reading the manual about break-in riding.....Oops! Says not to exceed 3500 RPM for 1000 miles...Oops! Clutch seems kind of wonky at first and I thought it might need a warranty adjustment, but it seemed to get better as the miles piled on. My first brand new bike so I'm not totally sure what to expect. I have a bit of learning to do with the new display and the cruise control and front/rear suspension settings. Then to refarkle.. LOVING the bike so far. The color would have not been my first choice looking at it on the show room floor, but when outside in the sun....looks a lot better!
Sierra I did call Harold when I thought the dealio wasn't going to happen. We talked for quite a bit and we have quite a bit in common! Turns out he only lives about a mile or less from me! I didn't buy a bike from him this time, but I feel like I gained a friend! I appreciate you sending me his way..as he appreciated you sending me his way!
One thing I enjoyed about the purchasing process is that it went pretty quick and they didn't try and sell me multiple things like an extended warranty, upgrades, etc. They did offer me 15% discount on any parts, service and accessory from here on out for no additional charge. Also, once we agreed on the price...that was the price. No last minute surprises or different numbers.
Thank Y'all for tip, advice and help! Sometimes I wonder if it's just me?....
If your on the fence on changing from Gen1 to Gen2....I highly recommend it! Want to mention I do have the non-ES version.

Congrats on the new bike. That's a great trade in value for your '12.

Don't worry about break-in. It says avoid prolongedoperation about 3,900. I bet you're fine.

Enjoy.

The Cobalt blue was the same way....OK in the showroom, and awesome in the sunshine. Which probably means the red is a pearl paint also. Congrats on the bike!!

I wouldn't fret over the break-in process. I just used 6th gear a little earlier and kept off the interstate until my 600mi maintenance. I also did a lot of short bursts of higher revs and a lot of engine braking, according to what I read about the critical first 100 or so miles. I did a lot of city riding in those first couple hundred miles really varying the speed/rpms. No issues so far, with a shade under 3k miles.

A couple of things to add.... I've learned that dealers seem to like if you get your trade-in back to stock as possible.

Also, I got $9k for my 2012 S10 trade in. In the state of Texas a buyer only pays tax on the difference between your trade-in and the price of the bike you're buying. That can save quite a bit. This varies from state-to-state. I see a few heavily farkled bikes in the For Sale section selling for less. My trade-in was bone stock. Yes, it was an 8 hour whip defarkling my 2012; but I can transfer or sell the parts saving me a couple of thousand. There are a couple of bikes in the For Sale section with more value in farkles than what I had. Just a thought if one is looking to get another bike.

I didn't want to start a new thread. But under the seat was 3 keyed lock cylinders. They are keyed to my ignition key. Guessing these are for the oem panniers. My bike didn't come with the oem panniers. Was it supposed to? Mine is the non-ES version. Thank You in advance!

No, the boxes are not included in the initial purchase, but the locks are. They can be fitted to Yamaha boxes purchased seperately, maybe even other brands. Not sure if aftermarket boxes accept the factory keyed locks or not.

Yes, you get the lock cores but not the panniers. When I got my bike, they misplaced the lock cores and tried to tell me they don't come with the S10 new. Well, after talking with my buddy who runs a Yamaha dealership and him confirming with Yamaha I convinced them to get me a new set and mail them to me (free of charge, of course...but not keyed to my bike, unfortunately). The whole process took them about 3 weeks, too. They tried to go thru Yamaha warranty, then just ordered a set and then mail them to me. I live about 4.5 hr from the dealership, so it was kind of a PITA.

I'm afraid that I would no longer use that dealer. If they lied about that, what other unscrupulous business practices do they provide. Of course, I am assuming that it is the closest dealer to you. I wouldn't trust them though. Good luck.

I never asked. I asked here first. If they were supposed to come with the bike, then I would've asked them for them and IF they tried to tell me they, then based as what people said here; I was going to question it further.
