Greetings. I've been riding for 30+ years but lately it's been a 1987 Moto Guzzi LeMans, which was a great bike but starting to show its age. I took a spill last year (different bike) in a way that wouldn't have happened with TC and ABS so I've been looking for a while for a modern machine with those things but not a lot of extra features beyond that. I owned a Ducati Elefant E900 in the past and loved the roominess (I'm 6'4") but hated the finicky desmo valvetrain and chain drive. Searching for a modern equivalent, I narrowed my choices to a Moto Guzzi Stelvio, Triumph Tiger, and the Super Tenere. It's written in my DNA to want the Goose but after much fence-sitting and internal debate, I just picked up a leftover 2013 S10 at my local dealership. The fact that the nearest dealers for both other brands are >250 miles away played into that decision, as did the extended valve clearance periodicity on the Yamaha.

I got home and immediately ordered crash bars (Rumbux) and panniers (Bumot) to start the slow slide into farkle-mania.

Some of you who hang out in knife (BFC, USN, JD) and gun (any of them) forums may recognize my username. It is the one I use for just about any forum so you should recognize my smoke. I'll probably lurk for a while before making another post but I am looking forward to being a part of this community.

As an owner of two Moto Guzzis, Norge and Stelvio, I can say that I really enjoy my Tenere.

The Stelvio and Tenere share some traits such as weight, but with the air cooled, manual valve adjustments and the lack of accessories the Stelvio suffers. The Stelvio is a mile eater, but with the small tank (4.5 gal) it can be a pain, whereas the Tenere with the larger tank and better MPG gets me further down the road. The Stelvio may have the best stock seat I have ever ridden on. I pick up the Stelvio in Seattle and rode back to Arkansas, almost 2200 miles. The ride was perfect. The Tenere needs some attention in the seat to handlebar area, but I feel it is going to be OK. I really like the lack of maintenance and the long service intervals.

Good Luck
