Hello everyone. My motorcycle life started 30+ years ago. I grew up way out in the sticks. Started riding on the then new ATVs. One of my friends picked up an old Honda dirt bike and I had to get two wheels. I picked up an older 350 enduro. That bike taught me a lot. How to stay upright as well as how to be a mechanic (the old Kawi wasn't very reliable). I soon progressed onto a cruiser street bike. Through the years I had a couple enduros including the awesome Honda Transalp, but got the most use out of a street bike.
Many years later, my daughter was moving into her early teens. Being that dad was big into riding, I wanted to give her the chance to learn as well. Searching for a good starter bike for my daughter, the Yamaha TW200 stood out. After a long search, I had her on the bike and learning. Once she got her license, riding with me and my touring Harleys just didn't feel right. Dad needed another enduro. Searched out a like new Triumph Tiger 900 steamer and we were a team.
Fast forward a few years and the daughter is all grown up and out. The wife and I were on a 5000 mile bike trip in the Glacier National Park area and I was feeling down seeing all the cool big adventure bikes that could go down any of the scenic roads, and we were stuck on the tarmac polishing chrome. My new goal was this or a similar trip on a big adventure bike.
My Tiger is nice, but tough to find farkles for and the seating position, for me, would not work for the distance riding I wanted to do. A new search was on. I thought I wanted exotic (KTM or BMW), but after a ton of research, I decided on the Super Tenere. Reliability and cost weighed over the rest.
Late last fall, I picked up a new, non-current 2013. Rode the hell out of it to pile 1300 miles on before the snow set in. Over the winter, the farkling started. Givi Trekker Outback luggage, Givi skid plate (thanks to Motostorm IT, I can afford to keep going), heated grips, Kaoko cruise & Yoshimura exhaust. I think next, Altrider crash bars and maybe some additional lighting. This is bike number 22 for me in my motorcycle life and I am having more fun with this one than any other. Of the 6 I currently have in hibernation, this is the only one I am chomping at the bit to get on the road again.
I am hoping that this is the year I check the adventure bike trip off my bucket list. Montana, Colorado or maybe Utah as a destination. Even if I can't fit it in this year, my Tenere will be ready. I joined the forum to learn all I could about my bike and how to make it better. Bonding with other members as well as sharing some of my learnings will be a plus as well!
