well not really.

One is a commuter, the other is a tarted up MT-09 (FZ9)

http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/eu/products/motorcycles/mt/mt-07.aspx?view=media&mode=video

So this is the new MT-07: http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/eu/products/motorcycles/mt/mt-07.aspx?view=features
I'm guessing as direct competition to the kwak ninja 650, Suzuki gayus, and err...that's about it. Look meh....

http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/eu/products/motorcycles/mt/mt-09-sr.aspx?view=media&mode=video

And here we have a perfectly good MT-09 (FZ9) ruined: http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/eu/products/motorcycles/mt/mt-09-sr.aspx?view=features
If you're going to slap on a bunch of new plastics (for no reason really) at least color match them. Don't know, maybe it will look better in person, but i'm not sold.

I dan't really like the "uprated" MT/FZ09 either. I'd like to see a F800GS contender myself. The MT/FZ07 would be an ideal replacement for the 660cc single they've used for years.

You note they have really focused on the urban market, which is fine. But is fairly useless for me. But I'm certainly not the only market out there.

Looks to me like they "re-tarded" up the 09.

Yes they did. City slickers tend to have different tastes than I do. Most of the urban style doesn't appeal to me. But they huff fumes and chemicals all day, while I'm downwind from cattle and goats. That's right: goats. They are the only thing dumber than politicians. Even sheep sneer at them. Squirrels too.

I wouldn't give up on that motor appearing in an adv platform, maybe with 800cc. We'll see....

I think that they are going after the euro market first.
the triple would work very well in a mid size tenere. think TDM with 21/18 rims, or keep it simple and give us 19/17 with shaft.
I would buy it.

Not sold on the new one. I'm glad that they are moving things along, but it's not enough for me to jump ship. My 12 is broken in nicely, feels new, and is plenty capable of what I need it to do.
Incidentally I have cruise on mine, it cost me $12 bucks ::015:: http://www.motorcycleinnovations.ca/Go_Cruise_p/gocruise.htm
it does cost more now, as it caught on.

That MT-07 is a 700cc twin with a 270 degree crank and a steel backbone frame.

Sounds awfully like a waiting to be an ADV bike kind of build.

Longer swing arm, gaters, bigger tank. wire wheels, longer suspenders.? Done. Cheap ADV bike. (420lbs maybe)

Assuming it makes any torque down low that is.

They are saying that the mt-07 is 360 dry. so, 420lbs for an adv version seems plausible.

Sure hope we get the Street Rally. The new kawi looks nice too ::26::
even if we don't, buy the fz9, and slap a few of those plastics on. But why would you? the stuff they put on the handlebars looks cheeseball

The street rally with some knobby tires will look awesome. Sad thing is i just heard we will not get it in Canada. Also wonder why the new vstrom is not really making big headlines at eicma

I saw a road tire on a Honda nc700 not too long ago.
