Whats up motor heads? I have been lurking for some time now and decided to join.

I started riding when Yamaha came out with a JT 60 mini enduro, does any one remember those? I probably put 10k miles on that bike, I had lost
of room to ride it growing up on a farm in Ohio.

There have been several bikes in my life since that little Yamaha but I will never forget the sound that hooker header used to make racing my buddies on xr 75's and sl 70's. When I was 15 a friend took me for a ride on a KZ 900 I had never in my life felt that kind of pull, nothing I had ever seen or been near ran like that. I was astonished to say the least. I think my hand prints are still in those grab rails.

After several dirt bikes later I kinda lost interest and wanted to try asphalt for a while. Sold a KDX 400 and bought a KZ550. I remembered the KZ 900
and thought this will be sufficient. Ok for a first street bike I guess but it got old quick.

I was in the right place at the right time for the next machine. A blue hair left turned in front of a buddy of mine riding his v65 magna he didn't hit her
he just went over the embankment through the weeds over the creek into the field. I parked and ran down to him and said you alright dude? Good job staying on two wheels. He said I am done this bike is for sale. Man you did a good job of keeping it together I told him, he said I have kids I am done. I bought his V65.

It was the fastest thing I had ever ridden alone, in fact by my seat of the pants dyno it was as fast as the KZ900 I remembered. Everything was good no motor problems no problems at all just mile after mile of happy. I decided to for a ride one Saturday morning and I came up on a red light with this
strange looking bike big bulbus exhaust strange looking intakes, I figured everything else I came up to on this bike it spanked so why not.
This dude nodded the light turned green and he spanked me like a redheaded step child, I have never had anything walk away like this strange bike just did.

The mystery surrounding this spanking played in my head for a while until one day when I walked into a Yamaha dealer and saw the strange bike sitting there on the floor a salesman walked over and said what do you think? I said that thing just walked away from me like i was sitting still what the he(( is
it? He said its a 1985 Yamaha Vmax it is the fastest production motorcycle you can buy. I said where do I sign? I traded the V65 for the Vmax.

One of my best friends is a Yamaha tech he has been into motorcycles all of his life, he can to this day ride a bike like no man I know. He had a national
number of three in his racing days. I learned a great deal from him. He asked me have you ever heard of a stage 7 jet kit? No I said he said it will wake
max up. We did it and it did, the sound of that V-4 blowing through a kerker header is quite amazing. I ended up having three of those an 85,93, and a 99
they never really handled that good but in a straight line it was lethal.

In 1996 I heard a rumor of a genII vmax and started saving and in 09 it was released, I sold the 99 and bought the 09. This thing is insane to ride, all i can
say is if you wick it up make sure the handlebars are straight. At 26 mph in first gear snap it wide open the rear tire will literally fry. If you are fast enough
to grab second and a little front brake it will fry all the way down the block. Rocket science at its finest I do believe. You will stop when you realize its a
drivers license eater as well as rear tire consumer.

There are currently three bikes in the stable 2006 gl 1800, 2004 yamaha road star, and a 2009 vmax. But I always felt the last one to complete the collection was a sport tourer. This last weekend I went to Yamahas demo days I wanted to ride two of the bikes they had out. An fjr, the 16 is nice
led lighting, tcs ,6 speed etc. and the S10. The Fjr was first up even thou the demo ride was 8 miles I could feel my wrists and immediately thought this thing will need handlebar risers, and a bigger wind screen for sure but dang this motor is so turbine smooth i need to think.

Second on the list the S 10 I got on and sit pretty much flat footed, I thought there is quite a bit of room too. I thumbed the starter and thought bike reminded me of a big thumper. We proceeded no throttle let the clutch out it rolled away, once under way it was comfortable the seat didn't feel that bad
I can Move around big plus Fjr not so much, big dirtbike like handlebars NO wrist problems at all plus. Does it go? Lets see, surprisingly yes for a parallel
1200 cc engine it does quite well. Will it pull from 80mph? Yes. But the thing that got my attention the most I think is the relaxed ride. The bike was relaxed strolling along it felt like it could move any direction at any time and not complain. If I can get used to that sewing machine sound the engine makes
we could be friends. It also feels sure footed, suspension feels like its there and healthy. I enjoyed the demo eight mile ride. I do know a different windscreen is in order.

Now that my need for speed days are slowing most of our major riding is done in NC SC GA TN FL . If the other half goes ,she wants the queen seat.
Guys never let your old lady ride on the back of a wing, she wont ride anything else trust me. If she fly's to me then I can ride what I want as long as a back rest is present. There are a bunch of fire trails I have seen in Ga I would like to explore. Having a motorcycle SUV seems cool I am looking forward to learning about this machine as I am in the hunt for a Blk 16 ES. Sorry for the long intro post too much espresso i think lol. Ride safe....
