Hi all, new member here, currently on a 2003 K1200GT and a F800GS Adventure. I’ve been thinking about replacing both with a Super Ten, so came here to learn. I’ve been riding since 2000 on various bikes, more sport in the beginning (ZX-6R was my first ride) but mostly BMW GSs, large and small, and the GT in the last 10 years.

I am Yama-biased. But I can also say that I've never had an issue with anything built in Japan. I cannot make that statement about the spinning propellor brand.

The Ten is a great all around utility bike. Sounds a bit like a tractor and keeps plugging along like one. Glad I have mine, we done some big miles together!

I‘m also a big tuning fork fan. Funny note, it was my FZ-1 and my F800GSA that “distinguished” themselves as the only two of my 12+ bikes/5 brands owned to actually strand me. The Yamaha had a carb float not seat and hydro locked my engine, and the GS had a faulty ignition switch that would turn itself on without the key (hence the bike’s name “Boots” for Bootstrapping)—it did that once while I was away for a time and killed its battery.

I’ve been lucky with my K1200GT. It’s been fantastic. I have found that my other BMWs all took much more tinkering and futzing. The two Yamahas I owned were very reliable and low maintenance, incident above excepted. I’m hoping to have that type of experience with the next bike.

Yeah that K bike is right on the precipice of when things went south in a big way with BMW. You've gotten away with no clutch work so far?

No clutch or final drive issues. No issues of any kind, actually [knock wood]. The only maintenance items to go were the plastic hose couplers for the gas tank, one fork seal (after a dealer spilled brake fluid all over it during a clutch fluid change, and just recently the thermostat. 78K mi on it now.

Welcome from the east side foothills! Lots of great information here and we won't steer you away from a Tenere. I've had lots of (s)miles on both of mine.
