Greetings, all!

I finally registered after lurking around for a couple of weeks. I got my '2014 S10 in August and have taken it to the Italian Alps a couple of times so far. Great bike, quite a different ride compared to my Husqvarna Nuda, but probably the best thing for the mountain passes around here (see a pic of the S10 at the Passo Gavia attached).

My S10 has around 1.500 mls on it now. I had the ECU restriction removed after the first service which changes the character ofthe bike quite significantly, imho, and makes it more suitable for accelarating out of hairpins (switchbacks?).

I found this forum (and the German xt1200z-forum.de, of course) to be very helpful in my decision process. So, thank you to all of you for sharing your insights that made my purchase an easy one.

Cheers,

Thomas

Welcome, Thomas! I had the pleasure of visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy in 2011 with my wife. We did an Edelweiss Motorcycle Tour through the Alps. We flew to Munich and our starting point was Erdinger. Loved the riding, the people we met and the scenery.

This is a perfect area for the Super Tenere, so enjoy!

Best regards,

Bruce

Welcome Thomas,

Nice ride! Where did you get the ECU reflashed?
Also just did a 'one day' trip from Zurich to Fleulapass, to Mustair, up Umbreil and down the Stelvio to Bormio, then back, totally exhausting for a day trip, should of done and overnighter ::010::

Hi Dogdaze,

Thank you for your welcome. The trip you describe is indeed quite a mouthful for a day - I take it the Umbrail still is unpaved towards the top.

I had the ECU re-programmed at Off The Road (www.off-the-road.de).

Regards, Thomas

Thanks for the info Thomas, yep part of it is still unpaved, along with a few hundred cyclists climbing up it that day to add to the 'road hazard'!!!!!

welcome.

Europe is my original home. I go back to visit often.
At the current moment the Cols in southern France have my heart..
Col de Turini being my favourite.

Welcome Thomas!
I REALLY want to ride the Alps and really don't want to take a tour. I think that I/we could, with a little help fly over, rent bikes and go ride some passes.
Do you have some advice?!?!

Hi Thomas, welcome to the forum. I have visited Germany many times and it is one of my favourite countries. I was in Munich in May while the spring festival was on and had a great weekend. On previous trips I have been around Bavaria, Black Forest, Mosel Valley, Rhine Valley, Harz Mountains. A great place with friendly people, I really enjoy myself every time I go

SERVUS Thomas!

I lived in Germany for 24 years and just moved to the US 2 years ago. My wife is from just a bit South of Munich. Murnau am Staffelsee which is near to Garmisch.

There are soooooo many great roads that take no time at all to get to from Munich.

I will get back there someday soon!

Enjoy and WELCOME!!!

Welcome Thomas. I live in Malta, probably the southern-most part of Europe. I travelled to the Black Forest on my 2013 S10 last August. That was wonderful, passing all through Sicily, Italy and Switzerland (including the Splugen Pass - see pic) and then into Germany (in the Black Forest). Let me know if you're travelling my way.

Servus Thomas,

I spent my teen in Austria and really miss riding the Austrian roads. On my last visit I rented a KTM 650, it was a blast on the small back roads but on my next trip I need to rent something bigger. Do you know of any shops that between Munchen and Salzburg that rent Super Tenere?

@Brick: I personally think the way you want to do it is the best way to discover the Alps. A friend of mine from the Boston area is doing exactly what you are thinking of: He flies over to Munich and we rent a bike for him locally. Most local dealers like BMW, Triumph and Kawasaki offer bike rentals and there are also a number of dedicated reantal companies in the Munich area. We ended up renting bikes @BMW for him. Just checked and found out that a local Yamaha dealer in Munich also rents S10s. If you wish to discuss further, let me know.

@All: Thank you for the warm welcome!

Regards, Thomas
