Hey guys, new member from eastern WA. Looking to buy a S10 here very soon, like in the next week or two. a few decent deals in my area. I found a 2013 I like in my area but I really wanted a 2014+. I rode a friends 2013 a few weeks ago with my wife on a 650 mile, 11hrs on the bike and it was great but had a few complaints that sounds like were worked out on the 14+. they were so minor though, i think id be ok with a farkled out 2013. thoughts?

anyways, ive been riding since i was 8yo, been on dirtbikes my whole life and still ride / race. first street bike was a 2008 R6 i loved and did some longer trips on it and had a blast with friends, and they convinced me i needed a more touring bike so i sold it and bought a 2008 FZ1, which i absolutely hated! very uncomfortable on even a 200 mile ride, just did not like it. Sold that and bought my current baby, 2012 R1. Oh man i love that bike, and im very comfortable on it. Did a big 3300 miles in 9 days trip from wa to yellowstone, mt rushmore, pikes peak and home. never was i uncomfortable, but riding 2 up with the wife is enjoyable and i dont NEED all the R1 power, but damn is it fun! S10 has good torque and i had enough fun on it that i think ill be ok with selling the R1 for a S10. As it is now i never ride the r1 too crazy, and if i need that adrenaline rush thats what the dirt bikes are for right?

Josh,

I just bought a 2015 for the same reasons you are debating. I am pretty happy to have the electronic cruise control that the 2014+ models get you. I think if the deal is good enough on the 2013 you could live with a throttle lock or other aftermarket though.

Just my two cents...

By the way, I just got back from your lovely state. Vacationed up near Baring. You are very lucky to call that place home!

Thanks, but you visited the west side of the state, should check out the east side. Its a desert where i live but yes its amazing on the west side, its where i grew up.

Anyways, ya i want a 2014. Found one very basic but has the plastic pelican side cases and a givi top case for 12k, low miles. not a fan of those cases. Then found a 13 all farkled out, yamaha side cases and every single little thing i would want to do to the bike how i would do it (and im super meticulios and picky/finicky, my bikes have to be set up a certain way) for 10k, same low mileage. Im cool with throttle lock, sounds like new clutch basket from a 14 helps with vibration. I did the whole trip on my buddies 13 without a throttle lock and some rock hard grips from his hand warmers. Im leaning towards the 13 as its super clean and already done (for the most part)

You are right. I did not get over to that side of the state. Either way, you are just a few hours from some great S10 riding areas. Here in Illinois I have city or corn. Not necessarily a bad thing but not as pretty as mountains.
