Retiring to Arizona next year and have decided to pick up a new bike in Oregon (NO sales tax) prior to the big move. Have been riding for 45+ years, primarily sport touring/camping. Last bike was a 07 BMW GSA, perfect fit for my 6'5" self but sold. I really didn't want to grow old with the GSA and it's less than perfect reliability and very high maintenance costs.

I've been very impressed with the reports of the S10's reliability record, it's design (liquid cooling, shaft drive) and value pricing. Yesterday I dropped by a dealer and was very happy to find myself and my 35 1/2 inch inseam comfortably perched upon a Japanese Moto. A rare moment !

My first bike, was a clapped-out '64 Yamaha YDS-3 (250cc) purchased and owned for a few glorious months back in 1970, so my return to Yamaha will have a touch of nostalgia.

Next step, finding a good deal on a new '14 or '15 ES (got to have those heated grips). Hopefully I can find a cool shop to do business with, as some dealerships leave me with that "I've just escaped from a Hyundai Dealerships back room feeling". Any recommendations on Washington/Oregon/Idaho Yamaha shops would be appreciated.

Anyways, looking forward to reading and hearing from the group. Hope to meet up with you on the road.

Down your way, Power Yamaha in Sublimity seems to get good reviews. Lots of great buys out there, be patient and you'll find the right Tenere.

Welcome! I'm not far from you just outside Oregon City. Last year we bought two 2014 Teneres from Sublimity and I highly recommend them. You will never pay the bullshit freight or set up fees. Also, if you elect to get the standard model and not the ES, other than price, the difference is electronic suspension and heated grips. You can buy the Yamaha grips for $199 online or buy them from the dealer for $399. I just installed a set and it's rather easy.

The bike is fantastic to say the least. If you are on FB, we have a lot of Tenere guys in Oregon and Washington on the PNW Super Tenere Owners page with a wealth of info, pics and numerous rides.

If you are looking to buy, now is the prime time. I'd suggest to buy a '14 and above since there were a lot of changes for the good on the '14 and up. Pretty much the same bike from '14-16.

Sublimity is a great place that will toss you a set of keys and say see ya for a test ride. Also, I'm nearly 6'4 and I had to get a tall shield. Other then that, the bike is perfect for us tall guys.

Thanks for the welcome and dealer/bike tips. I'll head down to Sublimity to check it out and test ride a S10 the next dry day I'm not working.

Let me know when you get down here to AZ, and we can go explore! The ST seems to be made for this state...

Welcome to the forum. Last December I purchased a 2014 standard model at Beaverton Yamaha. The salesman Jim Armstrong was easy to deal with. They gave me a decent discount on parts, especially the heated grip kit, and shipped the order to me at no extra charge since I live in So. Oregon. Also a very good price on the YES extended service. I do not have any experience with their service department. I do not have any experience with the sales department in Sublimity but the service department could use an attitude adjustment. Great time to buy a bike. Good luck in your search. I am sure you will enjoy your new ride when you get it.

I lived in Portland for 45 years or so. Buying a new Yamaha, I went the extra miles to Desert Valley Powersports in Prosser, WA. Great service, great sales guys and no BS. No sales tax to Oregon buyers either. Bonus, had a nice ride home on the back roads to break in the motor. http://www.desertvalleypowersports.com/

I've done business with Beaverton Honda-Yamaha, (Bend over Bob's), and can't really recommend them for sales, though service was pretty good with good techs. I had Sublimity do a valve adjustment on my FJR and they crimped the valve cover gasket, knew they did it, gooped RTV over everything and refused to admit or accept that they screwed it up, trying to tell me it the leaking oil all over the engine was from a different gasket that they didn't touch. I ended up in crunch mode for a trip and had Beaverton re-do the valve gasket so I could go on my trip w/o it leaking and making a mess. Their sales dept may be fine, but if you see a Jesse James wannabe in the service dept, don't leave your bike there for service.

There used to be a really great dealer in Fairview, OR, but they either went out of business or changed hands. The current place might be worth checking out though. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ The shop that was there in the past had multiple 5 star rated mechanics and was really top notch. Hopefully these are a return of some of the same people. Their sales staff was excellent too.

Good luck and have fun!
