Hi All,

New guy guy here. Got my S/T 2 days ago and lovin it. Racked up a couple hundred miles in Beautiful Centra Oregon while on family vacation (coulda done more but,......family vacation)

Stepped up from 8 years on a KLR650A and have no intention of looking back (well maintained KLR for sale)

My S/T is a used 2012 with lots of extras. Any suggestions for a moderately sized/priced tank bag? I will research that and any other "must have" mods you more experienced types suggest.

I'm looking forward to learning from you all.

Steve

Hi Steve,
Nice bike, welcome! Is that per chance the one that was for sale in Redmond? Just curious. I'm currently in the Portland area but recently bought a place in Bend. Looking forward to exploring the area on my S10 when I'm not out on the mountain bike...

Hi,

It is, do you know anything about it? I had it inspected and other than being dropped a couple times there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. Did you go see it? I'd like to hear what you think.

Yesterday, I rode up into the hills west of bachelor. Was a great ride with not a lot of people and the ones that did get in the way were quickly left behind by the S/T.

There are tons of lakes and Forest Service roads, it will take you years to see most of them.

Didn't go look at it, just saw it on CL and thought it was a great deal. Glad someone bought it who will use it. Looking forward to all the riding up there and will be mounting K60's when my OEM Battle-Wings are gone - so as to better enjoy those forest roads.

Welcome to the club! Oregon isn't a bad place. Not Washington, but it will do!

Greetings from Texas! I also bought mine used. Came with the OEM tank bag. I like it a lot for touring. Good contruction, map pocket, plenty of room. Don't like it for off road. It gets in the way when standing on the pegs.

Thanks, I'll check it out. My "off road" consists of logging and forest service roads so may work out just fine.

Hi Steve, Lots of choices for tank bags. Wolfman makes some good stuff in the $150 range. Don't discount the strap on stuff over magnetic. Twisted Throttle has a really nice 'City' bag that is designed to be used with the SWMotec gas cap ring mounts which are very nice. Quick release to do the gas fill, but on the more expensive side when you add up all the items. Marsee makes some really good quality stuff too, and often at decent prices as well. Don't forget to check Amazon for sale or discounted items.

jrb - You and Steve should get together and have dinner at the Cowboy Dinner Tree in Silver Lake. A nice campground not far from there on the reservoir too. BTDT a few times when I lived in Portland. Bring a cooler and a bear bag if you're camping. The cooler no matter what, as you won't finish the dinner! Worth doing at least once for the experience, but the food is excellent too.
http://www.cowboydinnertree.net/ They are not kidding about reservations required, or the size of the steaks and it's a big chicken.
