After lurking here then registering and extensively comparing all the "Adventure" bikes........ I'm the guy that bought Slugo65's 2012 Blue Tenere! Not only did I get a bike farkled out...I made a new friend! Uncanny how much Slugo65 and I have in common! Not only did I buy the best bike; but bought it from the best person! He is as meticulous about maintenance as myself! He spoke highly of everyone on this forum and recommended getting advice here. Thank You, again Slugo65 (I think I already Thanked Him at least 30 times!
I also currently own a highly customized a 2005 Honda VTX 1300C. It's a toss up whether I keep the VTX or not....I put so much work in to it and customized it just the way I like it. Like I expect the S10 to be; My VTX has been pretty trouble free.
I researched all the Adventure bikes and had narrowed down to the KTM 1190 Adventure or the Super Tenere. Price and Value along with the best reliability record is what won me over. As well as great aftermarket availability. Only downside to the S10 I could find was its weight and horsepower. But I learned that other bike makers fudge their weight numbers and after sitting on and testing ALL the other bikes...The S10 didn't feel any different in weight. Plus the torque makes up for the weight. As far as HP....The s10 is in the upper middle of the pack and can be increased to be up there with the rest of them via reflash. But to me torque was more important as I plan to carry a lot of stuff for motocamping.
I live in Ft. Worth, Texas and it seems there's a good stable of S10 riders that live here in Texas and RideoOnAdv is not far from me!
Love the term "farkle" Never heard that before here and it's a great descriptive word! Did it start here?
I flew down to Austin, Texas where Slugo65 lives and we spent the entire day taking care of the paperwork and stuff that goes with buying a bike. Hung out, and I rode the bike 200 miles to my house here in Ft. Worth. The ride home was great! Coming from a cruiser the route I took was perfect for getting me acquainted with the bike! Speed limits were 75 mph, there were a few twisties a lot of curves and I got caught in a downpour and half the ride was in the dark on the interstate. By the time I got home I felt bonded with the bike.
I name my machines and named her "Boo."
Next up Clutch basket, Cam chain tensioner and auxiliary lights. The stock headlight bulbs are in and I was surprised how well the worked for me. I was kind of worried after reading some threads here.
Looking forward to participating and learning here and of course riding!
