Hello,
I'm new here, been surfing in the background for some time though.
My primary ride is a 2009 FJR1300; I know many have moved over from the FJR to the Tenere. Spklbuk here has done quite the job of bashing me over the head with the dual sport bat. I've given in with the recent 'barn find' acquisition of a 2005 DRZ 400 SM. This bike had 1.3 miles on it when it was wheeled into my garage last year. After a long, hard fought battle with the great state of California's DMV, I have a title and plates on the bike. Still working out over 7 years of storage bugs out of the bike, but the first 200 miles have been a blast.
Long range plans - traveling to Alaska via motorcycle - have brought me here and I'm 99% sold on the Tenere being the bike to do it on. I am a little concerned about the weight of the bike in situations where I might need to pick it up (I know, best plan is to not drop it to begin with...). I've given the F800GS a serious look as well. I've ridden the Tiger 800 too. But, with how well the FJR has served me - and taken the abuse I've put it through - there's a solid bit of loyalty pulling me to the Tenere.
To top it all off, during a recent conversation with my CFO (aka wife) about maybe selling the FJR as a means of putting a Tenere in the garage, she completely shocked me with this - 'why sell the FJR? - I mean, you've had more than one motorcycle before' (I used to have a HD Softail along with the 1st FJR). 'why don't you just wait until **our middle daughter** gets settle at college and then look for a deal on a new one?' Yeah, she's a keeper...
