New guy from CT. looking to buy s10 . need advice ..

I'll add to the "go Gen2" crowd if possible. There were plenty of clean low mile Gen2 bikes for under $10k till a few weeks ago and now they are largely gone.


The Gen1 bikes are still great and there are LOTs available. You should be able to find one already farkled for under $8000 with a little negotiating, especially on a Fly-N-Ride.

OP, maybe you talk Dave into removing some accessories and selling them separately. This might close the gap. For the minimal price difference between Dave's 2017 and the 2013 you are looking at, I would not have to think twice. If you did buy it and then decided it was not for you, the resale on the 2017 will be better.

Simply don't get in a rush..
One will fall in your lap, resale is a burn on this bike.
In fact you should make an off on the 13, it's five years old on the floor it needed to go like three years ago.
Offer him 8k out the door see if they bite, if not keep looking for a Gen2.
Honestly you may be happy with the Gen 1 but the things mentioned above will add up just as much as getting a gen 2 that may only need an ECU flash to pull all the restrictions off the map and put a total smile on your face.
The 2012 and 13 had issues with the dreaded High idle low idle stall syndrome like my 12 did and others.
Lots to decide go for the Gen2.

Thanks Ramseybella , fortunately I am on vacation this week in the Carolinas so it is giving me time to think . I appreciate everyone’s feedback and it sounds like the gen2 is the way to go . I see what you mean about the resale so I better like this bike for the long haul (see what I did there ) ..LOL .. Like I said earlier I have an FZ-09 so at least I’m not bike less . I am not fond of the Africa twin . I think it looks funny . I like the fact that the tenere is bulletproof I have always kind of leaned towards Yamaha . If you think the resale on the S10 is bad, try buying a new Kawasaki Concours and see what you get for it 1 year later. That bike pretty much sets the benchmark for "Drive it off the lot" resale...

I liked my 2014 FZ09.
Enjoyed my 2015 FZ07,
and quite liked my 2015 FJ09.

The 2017/2018 FZ09/MT09 has my eye.
Better electronics, better headlights (LEDs rock, my 2017 AT lights are great)

That tank though...what a PITA...200km in town and you're pushing...bleh. The FJ was much better, the 18L could get you 350km on the highway, 300 in the city, zero issues.

Thanks taskmaster . For the record I never said I got it for $10k ..but Dave did give me a very good deal ... It will be a little time before it’s on the road I have to sell my FZ first but as soon as I’m riding it we should meet up . Where in Ct. are you ? Gary

Absolutely, I am in Groton, which is in the south eastern part of CT.

I road one at a dealer I liked it honestly.. The Sheriffs use them around my parts..
Look bad ass in black and gold trim with all the techie stuff attached.
Like them better when they are pulling someone else over and not me!!
