Hello all,
I just picked up an almost new 2012 S-Ten (just over 2000 miles on the clock) and I've already used your collective knowledge for a tech question...thanks for that! I've upgraded from the KLR world in which I've made 2 trips up the Dalton/Dempster/Campbell highways from the middle of California. The KLR got me there and back but it was a little lacking on the pavement. Actually, I made the decision to go to a larger ADV bike and I was leaning toward Honda's new release of the Africa Twin. Two things changed my mind, First, someone wrote that Honda makes a good product and I'm sure it will be a fine bike... but the Super Tenere is already there. The second issue was the fuel capacity of 4.9 gals. on the Honda vs. 6.1 on the Tenere. That was a deal breaker for me and I think Honda missed the boat on that one. That last part of the Dalton is 239 miles between gas stops and no matter what Honda can claim for gas mileage, 4.9 gals isn't enough when you're loaded down with camping gear.
This summer's ride is a solo trip up to Yellowknife in Canada's NWT, Great Slave Lake and out thru the MacKenzie Hwy. I'm up to my eyeballs in maps and gear selection, living on the internet for research and planning but that's half of the fun. I'll find a place for some photos and a ride report if the bears don't eat me.
