Picked up a new 2013 Tenere on Saturday. It's a very hot summer down here but still was able to get a few kms in. It's a long story but I bought a new S10 in 2010 but had to sell it due to an urgent need for money at that time. Bike had only 2500 kms and it had to go.
I promised myself I would buy another one. It took over 2 years but I now am back.
I'm not a hard core dirt and bush rider so the bike will see the occasional unsealed road and that's it. I want the bike for commuting daily, long distance rides to various locations around Australia and as a backup for my wonderful 2009 Vmax.
I'm only 5'6" tall with 30" inseam so I'm going to lower the bike front and rear. As an aside, I must tell you that this new 2013 does not display the same lag or bog down in the 1st 3 gears like my 2010 version. There is definitely still a very slight off idle blip but it pulls cleanly and evenly in all gears. Yamaha must have made some changes to address this situation with these new 2013 models. At least here in Australia I can confirm this. I believe we receive the Euro bikes, but I'm not certain.
I don't like the typical hard luggage so I have fitted a Ventura rack and bag system(New Zealand made) which I have on the Vmax as well and can simply interchange bags between both bikes.
My wife has told me the bike is too quiet so my list of mods will be a muffler (can), home made highway peg brackets with Kuryakin pegs for the long hauls. Garmin GPS mount and a set of Vibranator anti vibration gizmos. I've had these in several bikes before and they are the only ones that work for me to reduce long term hand problems on long rides. Probably some heated grips, but at this stage not much more. If I fit a pipe I will go with a Dynojet PCV or an ECUnleashed download. Have not decided.
First thing I'll do is get up a few miles and check throttle body synch. Will then try one of the mods seen in this forum like the CO and air screw adjustment and synch check. The bike is definitely lean like the previous one especially noticeable when you sometimes blip throttle on a downshift.
However I'm glad the 1-3 gear lag is virtually gone. If it's not really gone I can tell you it's almost impossible to detect it at all. They may have really just smoothed the software out that well you simply don't feel it.
Only other thing I've already done (in the showroom when I picked the bike up). Took the seat height adjuster out all together. Removed the 4 rear rubber grommet seat supports all in an effort to flatten and slightly lower the seat. Main reason...I hate the forward sloping seat. With that change it's perfect for me. Put about a centimetre of rubber strips on the fuel tank retainer bolt to sit the seat up at the front to make up for removed adjuster. Works very well for me. Did this on the 2010 Tenere.

Welcome on, Sam from Australia. Congrats on the second purchase. I'm heading that way myself. Wrecked my first one last fall. Got a gray one waiting for me down at Yamaha as soon as the snow goes, and we come off of this minus 30 crap. ::004:: to the Forum. R ::022::

I'm watching the first F1 race of the season in Melbourne this weekend on the tube. Looks like some beautiful weather down there.

Enjoy your new ride and welcome to the forum!
