Welcome from Texas. Clank as in a rattle, or not smooth throttle response? 'Cuz, yeah she doesn't sound like a sewing machine. The twitchy throttle, especially in "S", is a quite popular & continuous debate. I recalibrated my wrist, and now LOVE the instant on/off, with great engine breaking; I never use "T". Many do not, and will suggest re-mapping the engine computer. ($$$$)
Clank as in, not a smooth throttle response. It takes some getting used to it appears. I hear you on the re-mapping of the engine computer. Gonna have to save up for that one! Thanks for your response!

Before, or while your saving up for, remapping, put a bunch of miles "in town". Stop-n-go traffic is the best for wrist recalibration. Before you know it, you'll have become used to the throttle. Then you can use your remapping money for other goodies.

@Sierra1 it was my understanding the ECU reflash does help with the jumpiness in the tork; however, it increases power in the lower gears, rides smoother, gains better fuel mileage and gains better acceleration? I will definitely get used to the city riding with the clutch and being able to smooth it out, great recommendation. However, it seems that there are a lot of other benefits awarded with the reflash as well. Have you done this as well? Curious to know your thoughts?

Like you said in the meantime, I can’t wait to get out and really get some great miles on this thing. It is a badass bike and I am so eager to use it for its original intention, the go anywhere cycle! Thanks for your response @Sierra1

Before you go and get a reflash, give yourself a couple months on it. I'm still leaning toward a reflash, but I've mostly learned my jumpy throttle and I've found it to be pretty good once I hit second gear.

The one thing I had to get used to was the heavier clutch, comparatively. My old Suzuki cruisers had light clutches compared to this thing. Even my old Savage with only a cable and no hydraulics was lighter.

It is manageable and easily done but it should not be so finicky the way it was built. I have been on many different types of bikes and none felt like this. I know, preaching to the choir.
But, this forum is incredibly insightful and am very excited to continue riding this beast!

I personally have never experienced the lack of power below 3k that others talk about. Mine is an unflashed '17, and it will pull the front wheel off of the ground from a standstill. My son thinks that the Tenere is quicker off of the line than his FJR. Of course the FJR blows past once it hits IT's band. I also totally agree that the throttle is like no other. But, now that I'm used to it, I want no other. There's bound to be somebody near you that is willing to let you ride their flashed bike. That way you can make an informed decision. But, either way, make sure you have/get what YOU want; not what someone else thinks you should have.
