Hello Everyone. So I have been reading and thinking about the Super Tenere for some time now. Decided to take that leap and now own a 2018 Super Ten ES. The transition from Harley-Davidson cruisers to the Super will be interesting and fun. I already have a ton of questions and I swear the next photo will be me on it Actually using it in its natural environment. For now it’s all I have. Cheers!

Welcome from Idaho. Congratulations on your new bike. You have to give us your impressions compared to the Harley.

Thanks @Mak10 I wish I had the Idaho mountains like you! It is really an apples to mango comparison for me but here is my take.
  • First impression was it sits up very high with a wildly different riding position. Will have to see after long trips if this is good/bad. But is actually very comfortable and I feel more in control of the bike.
  • Super 10 is very clanky in 1st and 2nd gears and even more so in Sport mode. Seems unnecessarily so. I really hope this is not just my bike and is actually supposed to be like this but takes getting used to. Is this normal? This is my first S10 ever riding but seems very abrasive and not smooth at all.
  • I got spoiled with the HD turn signal switches on the side you are actually turning that turn off after the turn; so on my S10 I keep leaving the turn signals on longer than anticipated.
  • Heated hand grips are awesome!
  • Electronic cruise control is incredible.
  • Turning radius is fantastic.
Certainly more comparisons need to be made as I have more than a few days with it. However, I wanted to take riding to the next level and get off of the paved roads. Something that could never have been done on my HD. But time will tell which bike I use more often.

Welcome aboard ! Yes the S10 engine does Rattle a lot. Yes it should also come equipped with self canceling turn signals, your lucky to have a generation 2 ES that came with cruise control and heated grips as standard equipment.
looks like yours must have some kind of aftermarket luggage system ?

It does and I am having a hard time trying to figure it out. I bought it 2nd hand and am trying to get in touch with original owner. However, the luggage rack is Givi (don’t have any of the cases) and I am trying to figure out which cases are compatible. Are these for Givi Trekkers?

did you buy it from a dealer ? When I bought my 2013 used it was from a dealer, they had pictures online and said luggage was included but the pictures didn’t show any luggage so I called and told them I would drive 100 miles over there to look at it the next day, when I got there the saddlebags and top box were mounted, everything looked good and the price was excellent so I made a down payment and told them I would pay it off and pick it up next spring, it was on consignment from the previous owner that was supposedly getting married that’s why he was selling so cheap, well the next spring when I went to pick it up it also had a very nice $500 Givi tankbag that no one had said a word about the day I made the down payment. I bet Your dealer very likely has your luggage Somewhere.

I did buy it from a dealer and he said that the previous owner took the cases and top box with him. Makes me wonder though! I want to get a hold of the previous owner because I am wanting to understand what maintenance he performed and what cases he took off so I can get something similar. Thanks for the info. This guy rode 17K miles in less than 2 years, this is a 2018 model.

I suppose it’s possible the previous owner bought a different brand of motorcycle so removing Those old mounting brackets might have seemed like more trouble than it was worth to him.
Unfortunately the dealer I bought from refused to give me any actual contact information about the previous owner.

That stinks. I knew the dealer wouldn't give it to me but promised to have the previous owner contact me. Fingers Crossed!

Hello! Very nice bike! I am not sure but i think here in KY it is a law the dealers have to provide the previous owners contact on used vehicles. I have called about trucks that i have bought. Of course who knows it may have been another sales persons number from the dealer i was at. Ha ha. Any way enjoy the bike. Yes they do rattle like a chain in tool box on the back of a one ton truck.

Haha thanks for that info! Man, I was wondering about that. It is not smooth whatsoever but glad that is normal, I guess. Come on Yamaha engineers!
See ya in KY sometime.

Welcome from Texas. Clank as in a rattle, or not smooth throttle response? 'Cuz, yeah she doesn't sound like a sewing machine. The twitchy throttle, especially in "S", is a quite popular & continuous debate. I recalibrated my wrist, and now LOVE the instant on/off, with great engine breaking; I never use "T". Many do not, and will suggest re-mapping the engine computer. ($$$$)
