Today i was looking at the ECU- label on my 2013 bike sold in Sweden. The label is red/silver and have the letter G on it, unlike the photo in the first post that have a green,yellow/silver label with the letter B. The numbers on my ECU are 23P-8591A-50 without any zeros at the end. It would be nice to know the difference between my 23P-8591A-50 the 23P-8591A-70-00 and the 23P-8591A-30-00. I have not yet drived my new bike because its to cold and to much snow here, so i cant say how it feels to drive it.

As mentioned earlier Flash-Tune comes with a stock map and a 91 octane map. Can anyone tell me about the difference between"stock map" and the OEM Yamaha map? I have only seen descriptions about the 91 octane map, and that seems to be a big diffrence from the OEM flash.

Your -50 is a "European" spec ECU. The main difference is the immobilizer.

The "stock" map is exactly that...the factory map from Yamaha. That is so you can return the ECU back to factory configuration if you please.

Now i have received my ECU interface kit from Flash-Tune.com. As i understand when i flash the .ftm-file it includes both S-mode and T-mode? For instance if i only want to change T-mode i can use the stock file and transform the T-mode as i want it and leave the S-mode stock, then save the file with a new name. Is this the right way to do it or can you flash to T-mode or S-mode alone?

You are correct. You make whatever changes you like and then flash the whole file over.

Step 1 is always "save file as" and make a new name.

Ok thanks AVC8130. Is it be possible to flash to the ECU offline, or do i need a internet connection during the flash (my laptop does not have a internet connection)? I have mailed Flash-Tune today about that but have not got any answer yet.

Today i was using the "download new ECU files" and the "pump91" seems to have been replaced by a file named "Unrestricted". Perhaps its just a new name, i have not checked for differences.

No internet needed to perform the flash. It is suggested you open Flash Tune often with an internet connection so it can auto update.

It is easy enough to use the "compare" functions to check the differences.

I have no idea why they try to bury this. You can create a shortcut on your desktop to the Flash-Tune.exe file. Mine, using Win XP, was installed under C:\documents and settings\*user name*\local settings\apps\2.0\cwworwco\vzyq6gez\flash-tune.exe. Your directory structure will most likely be different, just find the flash-tune.exe file, and create a short-cut.

In the Flash-Tune software there is some abbrevations. TPS = "Throttle postiton sensor". But what is ETV standing for?

"Electronic Throttle Value" I believe.

That is your throttle mapping. That is where you will have the most "fun".

My ECU showed up Wed. I probably won't be able to get a ride report in till March the way this winter is going. Only 12 more hours of snow then I can start shoveling ::010::

Unfortunately that is one Flash Tune hasn't seen yet. You would need to send your ECU to them for hacking if you want the harness. PM me.

Hi.

Thanks for the quick answer.
The shipping cost will be a bit much - Return shipping using insured package with UPS is at about $150. I will PM you if I decide to get the hacking done.

J,

It's worth every penny. They will need your ECU for a number of weeks to hack but the end result transforms the bike to way it should be. I sent my 2013 ECU to them for hacking. My bike has the 23P 8591A-50 ECU like your European models. Yamaha ships the European bikes to us here in Australia.
I just sent my 2009 Vmax ECU to them for hacking and have it back after about 4 weeks. It's very interesting how different the effects of the Flash-Tune "unrestricted or +91 octane file" works in the Vmax versus the Tenere. In the Tenere their baseline unrestricted file works great. Yes, you can hot it up even further by applying more aggressive throttle by wire opening rates than the one to one version in Flash-Tunes off the shelf version, but I'm happy enough with the generic file.
In the Vmax, their off the shelf file is also one to one on the throttle opening values and I hate it. I needed to tame it down dramatically or the bike just never slows down. When you get off the throttle the rpm still stays high unless you pull in the clutch lever. For me that was ridiculous.
The Vmax is so powerful even in stock form it only needs one to get rid of the little bog between 1500 and 2500 rpm and the full throttle restrictions in the higher gears in particular. The fan cut in is also stupid and needs lowering in hotter countries like here in Australia. We've got summer right now and had weeks of 40C + recently. The lower fan cut in particularly in traffic is wonderful.
Fact is, you can change things till you get it just right for YOU. As I said, worth every penny.

Sam,

I bet the trouble with your VMax isn't on the throttle side. I bet Chris got a little too aggressive trying to reduce engine braking. I can look at the file if you'd like and make some suggestions.

With pleasure. Will email you the stock as well as unrestricted file. Happy to let you see what you can do.

UPS's rates are extremely high for shipping outside the US. Better to use USPS Global Express. Took about 4 days for my ECU to go from Texas to Yokohama that way and cost around $50 if I remember correctly.
