Picked my bike up after a valve adjustment. The new CCT made the noise I never really noticed disappear. This is to say, WOW, my bike was NOISY before the new CCT install. Unbelievably quiet now!!!! Only 50 miles since pick up so only time will tell but what a difference!!!!

Phil,

What shop did you use for your valve adjustment? Sounds like they are competent. I will travel to NorCal to get it done since there are no reputable shops down south.

Let me know. Thanks.

Roseville Yamaha. Speak with Zac. Tell him Phil Challinor sent you. He will do you right. They are a very "connected" shop.

Make sure you let me/us know when you come up. We'll make sure we take care of ya! There are a lot of S10 owners up here.

if the guts fell out then a snap ring was not in place.

Has anybody had a slight whirring noise from the engine when cold after installing the 2014 cct.
I have fitted the 2014 cct and clutch basket to my 2010.
Bike is now heaps quieter but notice a slight whirring noise on start-up when cold and I am thinking the tensioner may have to much pressure on the chain guide causing the chain to whir.
Not sure if the tensioner is able to have to much tension on the guide.

Possible to have too much tension if it released before it was seated during install.
Is it that or a little whine from basket gears?

The new clutch basket does make a whirring sound. Maybe the old one did to, but couldn't hear it due to the loose spring noises. My cct was replaced months before the basket and didn't sound any different other than the absence of clacking at startup.

Noticed a small amount of gear whine that wasn't there before the installation of the new 2014 clutch basket. Noticeable till around 3000 rpm, then disappears after that. I have tried to see if its the same on deceleration in the same rpm range but cant notice any diference. Would rather put up with a bit of primary gear whine, as opposed to some clutch noise and vibration from the previous unit. :-\
If the CCT was installed correctly, it will only tension the cam chain to the correct amount. Theres a few threads on the forum detailing the proper way to install and "release the tensioner" correctly.

Prior to releasing the tensioner I torqued the tensioner bolts to 10nm as mentioned in the OEM manual so was definitely seated before I released it. I did give the guide a further tap with the my hand on the back of a screw driver after releasing initially to ensure it had released as I never heard the tensioner snap up against the guide to take the slack out of the chain. To me the new CCT seemed to hold more tension on the chain than the one removed. I also made sure the chain was taught on the front to ensure the tensioner took all the slack up on the rear guide side. Prior to starting, to build up oil pressure I cranked the motor over a few times without the sparks plug in to set the tensioner.
It could be the basket gear on the existing crank gear and wish I could determine the origin of the noise .If it is basket gear to crank gear noise it would not bother me but if emulating from the tensioned timing chain that would bother me.
May have to get a stethoscope and try and determine the region. As I say seems to disappear when hot and whir when cold.

Must admit it is a different bike after replacing the basket though. Flogged it today and nothing faulted so should be all good.
If anyone wants to purchase a clutch basket modified by Sharealike (John) let me know.

There must be a bunch of old baskets around right now. I still have mine. If we put them all together we might get a couple of hundred in scrap metal. :D

You can adjust your own tension and set it, no automatic moving parts to fail.
Check videos on Youtube to see how it works and how to adjust it.
How does one determine the right tension. Is there a base standard?
