New Can Chain Tensioner Under Warranty

I had read with interest all the cam chain tensioner threads and at 20,000kms started to notice that the cam chain made a bit more noise than normal on cold start or first start of the day (2-3 seconds). When I dropped it in for the 20k km service this morning, the dealer said he would look at it under warranty. I just got a call to say that Yamaha Australia have said that my model (2011) was supposed to have the tensioner replaced when they came in for a service. Not done as a recall but if there was an issue or on the next service. So its going to be replaced at no charge. Got to be happy with that.

My dealer was turned down on YES coverage of my CCT. (2012)

I was a little taken back by that. They've been a great dealer and up until that point, had done all my service.
Mind you my tensioner isn't any worse than it has been for many months. But it does sound pretty rowdy for a few seconds.
I just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and get the new redesigned tensioner.
I figure the recent rash of CCT claims might have Yamaha USA feeling like there is an over reaction? I don't know.

No biggee though. I had bought a new one anyways. If I get in the mood, I'll throw it on myself.

My warranty wasn't extended warranty but full factory warranty from Yamaha. 2 Years in Oz. In any case it didn't end up being warranty but a planned replacement item at no cost during the next opportunity. They didn't consider it serious enough to even notify owners.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. US Yamaha is a joke ::007::

Bikes blowing up in owners driveways, customers ordering a part that has been revised for 14 and it's quite obvious there is a problem with the previous cam chain tensioner. And what does US Yamaha do, absolutely nothing but deny it is a problem. Just like they denied all those headlight harnesses were melting. Laid that blame on the owners. The only reason that was issued a recall is because the NTSB got a few complaints all in the name of safety. Not because US Yamaha ever believed the bikes actually had a defective wiring harness. ::)

I disagree. The CCT was replaced under warranty on my 2013, after my dealer (Fun Bike Center, San Diego, CA) gave a call to Yamaha. I was still under warranty, and I have the 4-year YES program. Frankly, the noise was not that frightening, but I took my chance to get the latest update. The only issue was the 3 weeks delay to get some parts. So far I am very much impressed by the care provided by YAMAHA to its customers. And I can compare to BMW...

I disagree as well.
Seems you found another CCT thread to rant on. I'm telling you, you're going to have an aneurism if you dont chill out.
Have yourself a wonderful holiday season Roy ::016:: Maybe Yamaha will invite you to their holiday party ;D

So the CCT was finally changed and at no charge. The dealer explained it wasn't a warranty issue but if your bike fell between a series if VINs and it was making some noise, it would get changed FOC when it was in for a service. No recall and no time or mileage limit. Bike is quieter on the first start now.

By any chance do you have the YES warranty? My dealer said Yamaha said "no way" to the CCT replacement unless I had YES warranty, so I had to buy mine.

Hi Scott, no YES warranty. I'm in Oz so different rules from what I can see. Yamaha Australia is replacing the CCT for certain a VINs if there is an issue. Warranty is not required.
