I was working with Lewis from Electrical Connection to have him make up a plug and play harness to be able to plug into the bikes harness for PIAA LP530 lights.

He has made up two different connectors, see the website link below:

Here is a pic form another board member that shows how to make the connections:

The OEM connector is rated for a 10A fuse (max). What is the total amps of the accessories running off this connection?

I will be using it for the PIAA LP530 driving lights, they are two 8 watt bulbs. So using the old college formula of P=IE we have 1.33 Amps.

How does Lewis' connector work relative to the diagram (photo) in your post? Does it eliminate the need for the wires running to the battery? Sorry if it's a dumb question. I just got my PIAA lights from Yamaha USA and am slightly confused - I thought the bike was pre-wired from the factory, and that basically all I would have to do is plug into the 3-pronged connector in front of the battery, and run the wires for the lights and switch to their respective destinations. That's clearly not the case. The kit I got doesn't even contain a 3-pronged connector. (Or clear instructions, or a mount for the switch, or... Kinda lame, actually.) Any help's appreciated..

Hi SuperDuper,

The PIAA lights come with the harness as shown in this post without the 3 prong connector. The harnes has a lugged hot (red/white wire) and ground (black wire) and a white wire coming out of the switch connector. I think this is because the brown wire coming form the bikes harness is switched with the ignition key.

So even though we can buy the PIAA lights from a Yamaha Dealer to "fit" the S10, they are not plug and play.

Buying the special connector (Part number 08111-102x102) from EC will allow you to plug one end into the bikes 3 prong connector and using the posi-tapped 3 wires to hook up as shown in the PIAA harness pic in this post. There are small black plugs in the 3 prong connector coming form the bikes harness so when you remove them, plug them back into the female end of the EC special connector. This is a nice little connector because you can plug something else into it in the future.

Hope this helps, send me a PM if you need any more help....I live on Long Island, where are you in NYC?

Rob

i need to invest in this. i took the power wire for the on/off switch and stuffed in the ignition fuse to make i turn on with the key. looks pretty ratchet but it works and i feel like a D-bag in the morning at 4am going to work since the LED's are almost too bright as drive lights. I've gotten a couple middle fingers and a cop flashing me to turn them off. ::002::

SuperDuper,

Yes, you can buy the stand along plug and connect as you show in the modified harnes pic or buy the EC special connector and connect as I describe.

Brooklyn, cool...I was born in Bensenhurst!! I live in Lindenhurst, Long Island now.

Cool...thanks, Rob. Since I'm eventually plugging into the main harness, is there any point in keeping this fuse in PIAA's harness in the equation?

I'm not sure if the bikes accessory circuit is fused, I would think so, but I would keep it for extra safety.

I have the shop manual on order so when I get it, I'll let you know the exsact circuit path.

Thanks again. Yeah, that's a good idea - it's certainly not going to hurt anything. And it might help.

Are you using the LP530s? If so you probably just have them aimed too high. Aim them at the same height as your low beams and they won't bother oncoming traffic at all, which is why Yamaha sells them as an OEM accessory. Been running mine for two years with no complaints...
