I had GIVI bars on my S10 but they gave way in relatively low speed contacts with the road and the side of a panel van. As the radiator and cooling fan assemblies were damaged in both cases, I decided to go for Altrider bars after the bike was repaired (Thanks e-bay ::008::). They were a bit fiddly to mount up in comparison to the GIVI's but I did manage to fit them on my own without too much hassle. They look much stronger and well made, plus the substantial side mounting plates are a much more robust design in comparison but I'm hoping I don't actually have to see how well they hold up by lunching my bike again. ::)

From the subject line I thought you were going to tell a joke involving my bike!

Somewhere in Spain, got a room upstairs, left the bike in the bar for security...

I've put it down both sides on the gravel and the bars needed some touch up paint but didn't bend and no damage to bike. I have deliberately laid it down once while stopped on a hill to help a mate and was comfortable doing so. Probably best value for money accessory I have fitted.

When you say 'NEEDED SOME TOUCH UP PAINT" did you use paint or bedliner? Mine appear to have a rough bedliner like coating.

ALTRider. They hold up well, have great coverage, and with a little finessing, you can remove the side panels on the left and right sides.

Best,

+1 for Givi. They have handled a sleeping Tenere quite a few times with no damage. Granted only twice on pavement. A few other times in mud, sand, etc.

easy to remove the side plastics as well.

Hepco Becker for me - my bike has been on it's side numerous times, H&B are very strong, you don't need the coverage extending as far up as most of them do. Makes them a bit lighter too. Crashed tested by sliding down the road at 50mph. Crash bar and Jesse bag took most of the impact, hardly a mark anywhere else.

Not looking for exotic fan protection for spills on trails. 80% street, 20% dirt and gravel backroads.
Have the alt rider. and just knocked over mine in the garage. Thank god for the bars, radiator would have been toast.
