Hello all,
My brand new S10 fell over at home today against my brick wall! I liked to SH-T!! I was standing beside it holding it as I backed out of n off my porch. I backed it off t porch n across a four ft wide grassy area (old flower bed) up onto my front side walk. As I did this my heel caught the edge of sidewalk n I fell over backwards n the bike fell away from me. My son and I got it up real quick and the only part that hit the brick wall was the very edge of end of grip. Ground a little spot on it. Whew was I lucky it wasn't hurt worse!

Good to hear that you were not hurt (bike could have landed on you) and that damage was minimal.

I have observed that when a person drops a bike there is an overwhelming impulse to pick it up as quickly as possible. I have certainly experienced this urge more then once. It is as if we feel that if we get the bike up quickly the drop never happened. I guess it is a mixture of shock, concern and embarrassment that causes this variant of the flight or fight response. I've also heard of people having no injuries from a low speed drop only to hurt themselves trying to right the bike. At least you sought help in lifting your bike Freebooter.

It's that 10 sec rule... if you pick it up within 10sec then it still good and supposidly didn't happen.

So the bike fell over... well what you described sounded like hungover 2 left feet and you let her drop :p

Hope it helped straighten out the bars a little - it'll sharpie out just fine!

Remember the next one is not going to hurt as bad.

The reason I always want to get them up quickly is because I worry about fuel leakage and also about oil going into wrong places, up in t heads, etc.

That's why I hate buying new. In a blink of an eye it can be very used.... :'( Glad you escaped that heartache. :)

It's the baptism of fire that happens to all (or most) new bikes. Some have it light and some have it heavy. I had droped my bike from standstill, loaded with pillion wife, two side cases, top case and tank bag, all geared up for a two week adventure tour. Tried to manouver it and a slight tilt-over couldn't be held and the bike gently went down with us two pegged underneath it. Within five seconds people were around to help us. Glad that happened in town (in Switzerland). The OEM side case held up very well, with a minor scratch on a corner. The bike had a tiny scratch on the top side cover.

These things happen. And usually in public. ::015:: My most stupidest one was once I was in Smithers, B. C. I had stopped for gas. Yeah ... stopped. Getting off my bike when I stepped in sort of a low spot, lost my balance, and helplessly escorted my bike to the ground in a gentle but inevitable recline. Hard to be cool when you do that at a gas station. As it turned out, two cage bound bikers were right there and rushed to my assistance. I departed forthwith and smartly, thankful that it wasn't in my home town. There's almost always a bright side. Not to worry ... it's all part of the deal. Glad you both came out physically unscathed. Let's be careful out there. R ::003::

;)

Glad you're not hurt and now you don't need to worry how bad your first scratch will be. It would've sucked to have the bike fall on you. If you really feel the need to replace the scratched part the Yamaha parts fiche is easy to find online and they aren't expensive.

As they say with new bikes, now that the first fall is over, you can enjoy it more without that worry. And, if you use it like it is capable of (off road), lots more coming. Just get some good crash bars (lots of threads) and a can of semi-gloss black paint (if you have the black bars) and your good. It is pretty hard to really damage this bike with good protection. And I can say I have a number of awards on the drop part in the dirt ::).

I have never had a oil issue's, or fuel leaking on any of my drops. Bike has always started right up after its "nap".

I picked my S10 up used a couple years ago and trailered it to our cabin a few hours away. The next morning I jumped on and headed up one of our gravel driveways and immediately the rear wheel spun out on wet leaves and down I went! FIRST ride!!! My comment was "at least that is out of the way!" Minimal damage, but it did rip the factory motor slider part right off. Replace with Alt Riders bars. I also dropped her over once loading her into our trailer, Its a heavy bike so when anything goes wrong there isn't much to do but pick her up :)

Hell nobodies going to admit to that!!
More like lets see photos of you picking it up off the ground!! ::006::

First time it happened to me was in Alamogordo, NM parked at a camp site talking to my wife on the phone turned my back and it fell over.
Smart thinking I unloaded all the shit I had on it off first and was like "My God this bike is heavy".. Thought I felt something pop halfway up. :'( :'(
