My (long) PivotPegz saga

Last February, when I ordered my Super, I bought a sack of goodies from AltRider with the intention of installing them in May. When the bike finally showed up in August, I busily began FARKLEing and generally wore a terminal case of permagrin. That was at least the case until it came time to install the PivotPegz.

The first thing I noticed about the pegs was how beautiful they are. The next thing I noticed was that they didn’t fit. It seems I had bought pegs made for a different bike because the mounting holes were way too big, and they just flopped around on the bike.

In denial, the first thing I thought was, no problem … I’ll just make a couple bushings to take up the slack. Then I thought better of it and got in touch with AltRider. After a whole bunch of measuring and checking of labels and numbers, it became apparent AltRider had ordered the wrong models from the manufacturer and labeled them as suitable for the Super Tenere. Back the pegs go to AltRider and I start riding the bike with the stock pegs as I wait for replacements to arrive from Australia. The pegs finally show up in December, after I had already put the bike away for winter.

I checked that the pins fit correctly into the mounting holes, which they did, and noted that the factory had installed bushings to reduce hole diameter.

As I was busy on other bike projects at the time, I didn’t get around to installing the pegs until last week. The first thing I noticed about the pegs was how beautiful they are, and could feel permagrin returning as I install the right-side peg. The next thing I notice after getting the left peg installed is that it won’t pivot due to interference from the side stand lifter thingy. Bummer.

Feeling a little frustrated at this point, I revert back to my former KLR persona, put a zip-disk in the grinder and buzz that sucker off. Now awaiting warmer weather and a full season spent getting better acquainted with my Super.
