I would be ready to get out to. I just watched the invasion of Ukraine. It's going down bigly. Good people being killed. Putin needs to be assassinated. He is making it hard on the people in a lot of countries INCLUDING HIS. He's so rich he wil never feel a thing. Sanctions on Russia is gonna be felt by the normal citizens the most. Not Putin and his tycoons crooks. This will probably get taken down

MFP, Sierra, I meant real , or best if that's less provocative. it is my opinion only not meant to insult any one ..... just leave the city and travel around Upstate New York , completely different in every way. I could explain in more detail but it gets political and CW likes to use the scissors ... away from the cities America is a different place. its a more balanced view people have out there. I've been to New York and it is in my opinion as I expressed it. we all love our home towns , I get that , but NYC is not Buda Texas in any way or Lytton Springs Texas my home town . if you travel through America its mostly small towns , the mom and pop places to eat and shop things are cheaper and life is more relaxed .... I was in downtown Buda yesterday most of the people you meet are from Austin enjoying a stroll through the antique shops and eating at the restaurants . people are just friendly here. go to Austin you worry about your car getting burgled. among other things. it is a different place I would not live there . but Buda is growing and will probably change , to bad as it is a nice place to live.
It is all good, no insult taken, I am
just busting onions….

When most people here "New York", they automatically think NYC. Many don't realize that New York has some legitimate wilderness. I have to admit, I prefer 1 or 2 people to 1 or 2 million people.

I’ve travelled a lot in my career. I’ve found big cities to be similar everywhere in the world, great to visit, lots of things to offer, dining, arts, sports, etc.. I’ve never been to a big city in the US or anywhere in the world that I’d want to live in though. Just too crowded, fast paced, noisy and impersonal. To get a real taste of a place, be it a state or a country, is to experience both the cities and the rural and even suburban areas.

Some folks like the hustle bustle of a city, but that’s not me. Where I live is on the edge of suburban/rural. I can go 10 minutes in several directions and be in the middle of farmland, the coast or the mountains depending on which way I point my compass. We are only an hour out of LA if we want to take in a game, concert or world class museums.

I agree with you.
I have been travelling a bit due of business ( my boss business, I am just a worker...).
I have lived abroad for a decade ( London UK) when I was younger..
I have had the same impression, if you want to "taste" the real character of the place you might have to move from the center towards the suburbs, where you can find "native" people not "Londoners" like me at the time...
Having said that it is good to see the big city and how people can blend or try to...
I have been to North America a couple of times and compare to Italy everything is bigger....

Pay attention to the fact that for 8 years Ukraine bombed its territory Donbass and Lugansk! That's where the Russian population was killed. Whole 8 years!!! And the whole world was silent about this, but we endured. But that's not the point! The main thing is that now he does not go to the whole of Europe!

I think what he means is "don't believe everything you see". (if I'm wrong, I apologize) We are seeing what the media wants us to see. Some factual, some not so factual. (we've learned that in dealing with the last presidential election, and the covid virus) Which is very sad/disturbing since for the most part, the media is our only source. I have no opinion on the situation in Ukraine because I don't have enough guaranteed true information to form one. My sympathy goes out to the true innocents.

I read an article the other day that reported that the general public in Russia was losing faith in Putin. The report said that for years he has been trying to convince the citizens that the West was the enemy, and trying to destroy the Russian way of life. The report stated that the citizens were finding this to not be true.

If anything, we need to make sure we don't destroy our own way of life.

I do believe we get half hearted news that is completely biased one way or another just so the ratings will go up. Rarely ever is there a real in depth news report that covers just the facts. I am sure it is that way in other countries as well. I wanted to know what the heck was going on over in Ukraine and why things are the way they are. I did dig up just as Ss1 said about the separatists that liked Russia's rule better in the Donbass and Lugansk areas fighting with Ukraine. I have never seen that even mentioned in our news but I also don't watch all news reports. things get very complicated on a national level when it comes to politics and power. All I know for a fact is there are good people getting killed and injured on both sides and more to come. I wish there were always easy ways to resolve issues. My heart goes out to Ss1 and his family as well as the good people in Russia as well as the good people in Ukraine. Only evil wants things like this. Just as Madhatter said people just want to live their lives no matter where they are from.

I agree with Madhatter. The real America is in the rural areas. Having lived in a big city for the majority of my life and then buying a farm and moving to a rural area far from a large city I have found the people and the culture that makes America great.

CUT the political crap and talk about people who should be killed. The thread is about a Member who wants to visit and

FURTHER POLITICAL CRAP WILL BE DELETED

As for the news, when I lived in Germany and worked night shifts I would listen to BBC and the US radio stations followed by Radio Moscow. You'd never believe they were talking about the same events. We all have our own biases and get fed news feeding what we want to hear. If not, we'd turn it off and there'd be no audience for the broadcasters.

Ss1, this is the problem, accordingly to the Spanish law, an invitation is not just a letter, but a formal paper that you sign up in a police station. It states that I am legally responsible for the events that may happen during your stay here. This means for instance that if you stay longer than your visa, I will be charged of trafficking with people, if you rob or kill someone, I will go to jail. I do not mean that you will make any crime, I say it only for you to understand how serious that invitation is. Anything you do I will be responsible. Therefore I am not providing invitations for anyone and I hope that you will understand why.
However if you manage to come here by your own, legal means I will be happy to host you and show you around
On a funny note, if you save a life, I won't get a medal. The State is very insensitive sometimes.

Didn't know it was that serious! I would probably think 10 times too.

Mostly a polite conversation happening here. The world as it is want to do every so often, starts a self destructive phase that never really solves anything but crushes the dreams of so many innocent people. Simple dream to want to visit another county, but compared to what is happening that’s mostly not even important in the bigger scheme of things. We should all be hopeful that the insanity will stop soon. The topic is about Ss1 visiting America but recent events have erupted in his area of the world. We or me are hopefully encouraging Ss1 to persevere in his dreams . In all this talk that’s what I hope he understands .
