After seven years of owning the S10 I made the leap into the GS word. I can't say enough about the great experiences and unbelievable reliability of the Yamaha. I was waiting for a few years to move up to a newer S10 model with some new technologies such as lean ABS and others, but the wait is over.....

After 1K miles on the GS, I have to admit that the riding experience is quite different in several positive ways. Especially the ease in which it tackles the curves, probably has something to do with the Boxer engine alignment and the low center of gravity.

Ride safe and keep your distance !

I sometimes get the itch to try one myself so please report back sometime....preferably after 100,000 miles or so and then we can get the truth about what they're like.
Enjoy. GS is the best looking adventure bike IMHO

A friend of mine who was riding V-Strom just bought a brand new 1250 GS. He had it at my house last night, and this was the first time I've ever seen one up close. The fit and finish on it is terrific, and I agree that it's got to be one of the best looking ADV bike out there. In spite of the never ending BMW bashing you read on line, there's no trouble understanding why so many guys buy them.

Enjoy. I had a deposit on a 2020 GSA 1250 just before the lock down. It was a lovely bike although I found the engine refinement (see also ‘character) disappointing. I loved the tech and the brakes. It stops incredibly.

The current situ didn’t warrant an extra £100 pcm for one and that’s why I am here.

Enjoy it though

When I went to an off road desert rally, it was all about the BMW GS and KTM 1190/1290. Every single BMW owner I spoke with loved there bikes. They also added it is a bike that you keep until the warranty was gone then you get a new one.

LOL Chris, I've heard that too. I guess there must be a sweet spot for buying one. You buy one brand new, sell it when the warranty is up, and then you wait X number of years to buy that same model on the used market and figure that, by that point, the second owner will have spent all the money to fix the stuff that failed after warranty. The trick is trying to figure out when that point in time is.

I've never owned a BMW, but I have owned its spiritual brother: a Harley. Another upscale expensive brand both adored and derided by the motorcycling world. My Harley experience (an '04 Road King) was basically 50,000 miles worth of trouble free riding; if I ever buy a BMW, I hope I have a repeat of that experience.

That was my experience. It was a great bike. . . . until about six months after the warranty expired. IIRC, the warranty was 39 months. I always thought that was an odd time period. But, once it started breaking. . . . It was down hill form there. As far as the looks? KTM, Triumph, BMW, even Honda have more "pizazz". My Tenere is a lot like me, function over form. Not much to look at, but can always be depended on.

One has to walk into the GS universe with a mindset that maintenance might not be the same as for the S10 or any other Japanese bike. I did :). Still a while to go until the warranty expires, I got it for 3.5 years.

From what I can tell so far, the overall improvement in the riding experience is worth it big time.

Congrats on the new bike.

My wife moved from a Tenere to a smaller GS. She loved her Tenere, but she recognizes the GS is a much better bike for her.

The fit and finish on BMW is a whole different world from the Japanese bikes. Really is impressive engineering.

I've wanted a GS[A] for ages but can't quite convince myself to pull the trigger...

Beautiful bike, congrats on the new scoot!

I'm very lucky and own both an S10 and a GSA

Both are great bikes although very different.

My Yamaha is now 5 years old, done 42k miles and has been out of UK warranty for 3 years and I have not great desire to change for a newer bike unless an amazing deal comes along.

I love the BM but would not keep it out of warranty which is now 3 years in the UK and it can be extended. No Yamaha extended warranty in the UK although I don't think they need it as they are so reliable
