Moving On... To an FJR

After nearly 3 years the the birth of three kids, assuming all goes as planned this Saturday, I'll be trading my 2012 Tenere in for a 2010 FJR. I have enjoyed the 14000 miles I have logged on my ST but I never fell in love with the bike. Of those 14000 miles maybe 200 of them were off road, and they where great.

We moved from WA to MN about 1.5 years ago to be closer to family with the kids since moving the MN I put 8000 all highway miles on the Tenere. Having owned a Victory Vision before and during the Tenere ownership, I have missed the big comfortable road touring bike. I sold the Vision after our first kid was born.

My riding in the next few years is going to consist of commuting to and for work around the midwest, so I have decided to move to a whip that does that type of riding a little better. Once my life settles and I have more free time (and money) I may come back to adventure riding.

Thank you everyone for all of the wonderful information here. It has been much appreciated.

Keep the greasy side down friends.

I had two FJR's, a 2004 and then a 2007. Great bikes!
Ride safe and enjoy the smooth muscle.

You take care Kelv.....
FJR is the queen of the highway, far as I'm concerned. Thats what I had before my S10 & my other half still throws rocks at me for selling out ofnit on occasion. Your still in the Yamaha camp so don't consider yourself disowned.

I've owned many FJ's and FJR's (85, 86, 90 then 04 and 07). My only complaint all those years/bikes was missing 6th gear....Yamaha has finally listened!! ::012::

Just had my first kid as well. After 6 months with newborn I finally realized there is no point having 10 bikes in the garage....just not enough time to ride/maintain that many. I'm now down to 5 with a few more to go!

Ride Safe!!

It sounds like the FJR will suit you better.

I had an 05 FJR that I purchased new, rode it 30,000 miles & traded it for a Kawi C-14. Boy was that dumb!

I bought & still own a 2012 S-10 that I purchased new. It was the perfect bike to roll up into our pickup truck while pulling our camp trailer. Still. I missed my FJR on the highway.

Last fall, I test rode a 2008AE and bought it. It's a fantastic bike. Now I have the best of both worlds.

Good luck finding an FJR...I know you'll enjoy the bike.

A lot of exFJR owners here. I myself have owned an 07 and an 08. Great bikes but at my size I never truly fell in love with them like I have my Tenere. I wish you lots of happy smiles and miles. It's a great bike.

Have fun ::001::

I am, at the moment fortunate to have both (plus an old Yamaha XJR 1300 that you don't get in north America) It's like being a two car family, only one has six wheels. If the unthinkable happend, it would probably be the FJR that would go. :'(

I have few friends who own an FJR. 09, 11 and 15. I rode them all ,and even it's not my cup of tea I like the thing. Then I took my wife for a spin, and she said NO!
Minaly because she is used to higher custom seat on S10, vs the almost flat one (front in high pstn) on FJR. She see's nothing forward except my helmet. That was the the end regarding my brief crush towards the FJR.

The FJR is an amazing machine; I had an 04 and an 08, and still hang out occasionally at the FJR Forum. Enjoy your ride!

I am in the one of each camp. I have a 2007 FJR (the fastest colour) and a 2013 ST which I bought last fall. I initially thought I would ride each for a while and decide which to keep, but it is now looking like I will be riding both. Besides, my wife says the FJR is the best bike I have ever owned. After 30 years, I need to listen!

If I didn't like ripping down dirt roads, I would have bought the FJR. Great bike, have fun, be safe.

Another ex-FJR owner. Although I only had one for a month, and two weeks of that was trying to sell it.

Great bike, too good for me. It was so good I had to ride it much faster than I wanted to get any adrenaline out of it. I need to keep my license. Beautify well designed bike.

Nice, just getting not the fatherhood thing myself so trying to figure it all out.
It is likely I will go the other way and go back to a KLR, since I do not have the time to be out riding the T I would rather have cash in my pocket than a nice shiny bike.
