Tonight was a tough one. My wife sold her 1988 Honda XR200R that she bought new in '88. She's owned it thru 12 years of night school, a career at Boeing, a life changing move and selling nearly everything she owned to go to law school, a law career and into retirement. This bike has outlived cats, dogs, boyfriends, homes, etc.

Tonight a 14 year old young man bought his first dirt bike. A new owner will learn and grow with the XR, just as my wife did so many years ago.

New and old owners

I sold my 88 XR200R last year. Great bike and I used it as a back up bike for my AHRMA cross country races. Even though AHRMA events require vintage bikes, the XR200R was legal under the "like design" rule, since it didn't basically change as far as engine, etc from the earlier models. A fun, bulletproof trail bike. Tell your young friend that if he ever wants to sell it, it would sell easily on the AHRMA web site.

Cool...holding on to a bike for that long. I could learn from your wife (and mine). Several bikes in my life I wish I still had. My wife thinks I'm too quick to get rid of a bike that is not being used. She's probably right.

I think we've all been there. But for me, space was always an issue too. I play with my toys and if I'm not playing with them, I get rid of them. Sometimes I regret that later. But in the end, I don't have a huge mess of junk that I could never let go of either, so it's not all bad. ;) When you watch some of the tv shows where people bought bigger houses or built another barn, just to keep their collection of mostly junk, it's enough to make me ok with getting rid of the things I don't use any more.

The wife last rode the XR in 2006, so over a decade ago.
