I've run across some pretty good motorcycle poetry on the Internet. Any of you guys dabble in that ??? I wrote a poem for my biker buddies last Christmas. I'd like to share it with you .... sorry. Please feel free to delete with extreme prejudice. This is also my first time to start a new topic, so my apologies if I screw this up ......

ODE TO A BIKER
(A Christmas Wish)

May the open road caress you
May each mile bestow a curve
May the pavement be unbroken
May you never need to swerve

May the sun be high above you
May the wind be at your back
May nought transpire to cause your tire
To leave the asphalt track

May your route be clear of ice and snow
May your traction be supreme
May your ample arse not prove too sparse
For that road trip of your dreams

May your brake lights blaze with brilliance
May you never need to pass
May your next trip be the best one yet
May your tank stay full of gas

May you always get there safely
Whatever route that you should choose
May your riding gear protect you
Be it race or tour or cruise

So make a point to ride the ride
When opportunity presents
May the driver of each car you meet
Exude abundant common sense

May the wind wash well above your head
May your teeth be 'void of bugs
May every driver on your road
Be free of booze and drugs

As you tour whatever route you wish
Be it mountains, coast or canyons
May your quest be blessed with the very best
Of reliable companions

So please accept this wish from me
With peace and health abiding
May happiness dwell in your home
May good fortune plague your riding

Very cool, rem! Sounds a lot like an Irish blessing.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I hope you guys don't mind my feeble attempt to lighten things up a bit. If you send me money, I'll stop. R

The first time I saw her, she made me grin
It was back last year in 2010
She was sleek and black and her name was Tenere
The first time I saw her my heart near stopped
My knees locked up and my bottom jaw dropped
For the first time in a long time I had nothin' to say

Well I stared like a kid and gawked like a fool
Pretty soon my chin was covered with drool
She was 'bout the purtiest thing I'd ever seen
I'll tell you right now and I ain't gonna lie
There was a smile on my face and a tear in my eye
She had the heart of a lion and the noble look of a queen

Well I sized her up as I circled her around
And man I'll tell you, pound for pound
This gal had really set me on my ear
Her final drive was a thing to behold
And as I moved in closer and got more bold
She said things to me that no one else could hear

She said, "get on son, and let's take a whirl ....
I think you know that I'm your girl" ....
Lord, I thought I'd melt into a pool
I tried to whisper and I tried to shout
I tried to say something but nothin' came out
I just stood there lookin' and actin' like a fool

Her headlights seemed to stare at me
They lit up like a Christmas tree
And her tailpipe was nothing short of a work of art
She was broad up front and narrow at the hip
She was stacked and curved and well equipped
And I knew she'd found a place deep in my heart

So I said, "Let's go, I'm gonna take you home ....
I love your steel and I love your chrome"
I knew that I had finally met my fate
Then I felt a hand fall on my back
And it damn near gave me a heart attack
When he said, "Son, I'm afraid you're gonna have to wait".

"You can't have her now, she won't even start ....
She's missing pieces and missing parts
She's not all there and I just can't let her go"
Well man you could have knocked me down
I had to find a place to sit down
My mind shut down and my body was moving slow

If I wanted this gal, I'd have to wait
My options sure weren't all that great
But right then and there I knew what I had to do
So I left my name and I left my dough
He said I'll call you when it starts to snow
When I left that place I was feeling mighty blue

Well I hate it when a grown man cries
So I hid my face and I wiped my eyes
And I finally got myself the right attitude
I'm gonna wait 'til she's good to go
It's really not that long, you know
There's just no other bike for this old dude

So hang in there, don't be depressed
There's no shame in waiting for the best
Sometimes a guy's gotta do what he's gotta do
Save your money and buy some farkles
Fancy things that will make her sparkle
No matter if she's black or if she's blue

I hope this little verse makes sense
And helps you not to be so tense
While you wait for this old gal to come your way
I know how much you hate to wait
But go ahead and get that licence plate
You'll be riding her before Thanksgiving Day

Good work. I am beginning to understand what happens in the Great White North during the snowy months.

Wow, while poetry is definitely not my thing I have to show respect to those compositions. The first one especially is very nice. Rem is our resident bard, apparently. ;)

Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated. However, I'm sure you'll become bored with the bard soon enough. I was just outside moving snow around and chipping ice. Still lots of it but supposed to get up into the 50's this weekend. Suuuuuuuuuuuubich !!!!! I'm liking it. That's GET NEKKED weather for us northern folk. R

As I lay here quietly sleeping
Hoping for a dream worth keeping
Words into my mind are creeping ....
All I hear is ..... Tenere

I rise and find that I am lurching
Toward my deck, where I am perching
Frantically my eyes are searching .....
Searching for my Tenere

My heart, my mind, my soul are weary
My eyes are red and tired and bleary
It's been so long since I've been cheery .....
I long so much for Tenere

The empty driveway feeds my tension
My mind explodes with apprehension
For this I took an early pension?
The place is void of .... Tenere

There is no point in consolation
Too great the burning devastation
Could others share the same frustration
At the sad delay of Tenere?

Bikes will come and bikes will go
Some will be fast, while others slow
But how can any bike bestow ....
The happiness of Tenere ?

Alas, I'll lose myself in cider
I doubt I'll ever get to ride 'er
I guess I'll go and buy a Spyder
I'll speak no more of ... Tenere.

BUT WAIT, there's word from Yamaha
Some order to the brouhaha
I may yet see the tanekaha
While riding on my Tenere.

Alas, my spirit's finally lifted
My weary brain no longer drifted
I no longer feel that I've been shifted ....
I soon will get my Tenere.

Thank you for your kind words, and the beer thing is a definite. Yes, I find it lifts my spirits somewhat when I can write something down. But only for a little while. I'm in agony again. I must go kill spiders. R

Rem, some day I hope to meet you, possibly over a bottle of single malt,'; with the snow falling gently on the mountains and the wind quite through the pines.
Our steeds parked in the winters moon.

An enticing image, for sure. I'm your dog. Name the time and place. I'd prefer your winter to mine, I think.

I'm off to Skagway tomorrow. It is a lovely day trip from Whitehorse. Maybe 100 miles or so each way. Gorgeous scenery. Have some fresh halibut fish and chips then back home. Suppose to rain but don't really care. It's always a good trip. Well, almost always. You boys behave yourselves while I'm gone. Take care. R

The Cycle of the 'Cycle

'Twas the day before winter
And all through the garage
Tools were scattered all over
Like a metallic collage

Fresh oil is added
To the 'cycles with care
And brand new oil filters
To ease wear and tear

Stabilizers added
To the freshly filled gas
Tires and wheels polished
To give them some class

Batteries pulled
And fuel lines shut down
Today was the last little
Quick trip to town

The centerstand placed
So the tires clear the floor
The panniers placed
On the shelf by the door

The last thing to go on
Is usually the cover
It's a really sad day
For a motorcycle lover

But spring will come 'round
As it does every year
When I'll dust the boy off
And put him in gear

I'll venture out slowly
Watch out for the snow
At the end of my driveway
Just watch that boy go

The summer is sweeter
The road's yours to claim
If you can't ride your bike
It's a damn dirty shame

With wind in your ears
And bugs on your visor
With each passing year
You grow a bit wiser

You learn to go faster
By taking it slow
Making every mile count
And going with the flow

Keep your eye on the road
Stay away from the beer
Beware asshole drivers
And watch out for the deer

Autumn then brings you
The last rides of the season
It's just too cold to ride
That's the only damn reason

Then winter is once more
Staring you down
And you're once again making
That last trip to town

Maybe that is the way
Things ought to be
A bit of a rest
Can't be bad for me

I'm anxious already
For that first ride next spring
The magnificent pleasure
That I know it will bring

I'll put him away now
For I don't have a choice
But listen next year
For you'll hear our voice

We'll once again travel
To places beyond
The last fork in the road
Down past the next pond

Me and my bike
Have enjoyed one more year
And with each ride I make
Things are a little more clear

I'll ride the good ride
On a wing and a prayer
Please ride one for me
Let's be careful out there.
