Lots of S10's today at Moonshine. And it seems we Tenere owners are out farkling the BMW GS boys. Damn I saw one Super Tenere that must have had 6 or 8 items hanging on the handlebars!!

Also meet Sjaak Lucassen and his Yamaha R1 with 30in wheels and studs in the tires pulling this weird trailer pics attached.

All in all a huge crowd of over a thousand + bikes eating these monster burgers in east central Illinois about 10 miles S.W. of Casey, IL.

I think he is going to need some 2ft mirror extensions to really be totally legal. The hitch set up is ingenious. The Wow factor list just keeps going. Stopping i bet is a event in itself

Actually the trailer has inboard disk brakes about 6-10 inches back of the wheel on the trailer axle.

Sjaak rode the R1 from Key West to Barrow Alaska.
You can read about it on ADVrider, "R1 Sjaak Polar Ice Ride (Official Thread)" ride report.
Pretty incredible ride.

On your way to everywhere, , Iowa
Had a great time at Moonshine
Got to meet about 5 or 6 Tenere riders.
I think the Super Teneres drew the most attention there, There was always guys standing around them asking questions.
After lunch I headed out to find the farm for camping and never did find it ,
I just felt like riding anyway after all that tire kicking.
So I took off to find some old bridges
I ended up riding on home last night. 600 miles on the day. not bad for hanging at Moonshine that long.

I sponsored Sjaak with theICEdevice business. It seemed like the perfect fit - The Polar Ice Ride and theICEdevice.

Ever since I started following his trip, I had been thinking that just maybe, the timing might work for Moonshine, and it did. I hope that he may get the chance to attend the event again sometime in the future.

The R1 that left Alaska 5 weeks ago!

Sjaak's timing was perfect as he made it to Kansas City for a Wednesday night lecture and then he had time to make it to the Moonshine Lunch Run awards dinner on Friday night. This was pretty incredible when you realize that he left Barrow, Alaska 5 weeks ago with temps as cold as -40 or lower, and he had several setbacks along the way. I was at the farm around 3:30 or so when Sjaak called to let me know he made it to Richard's Farm Restaurant. We met up there and he was able to meet with and chat with numerous riders. The MLR was set up by Terry Hammond as an event that recognized LD riders. I think that everyone in attendance knew that Sjaak may be the king of ultimate LD riding. He may not hold a speed record over distance covered, but he sure does take distance and terrain to an extreme!

Sjaak was able to meet riders inside the restaurant and sell a few DVD's

After the dinner, he camped out at the farm with the rest of us campers. His trailer is his mobile sleeping shelter. Saturday morning, he made it to the Days Inn to meet with more riders and then out to the Moonshine Store to see even more. I hope he was able to sell out of DVD's and make some coin!

Sjaak and Carole talking shop - 2 wheels and photographs

His next destination will be Key West, Florida within the next week. If anyone wants to host him along the way or cheer him on, check on his website for current and future locations. When this trip concludes, he will have ridden from the northern most point of North America to the southern most point, all on a motorcycle. Pretty damn cool! ::018::

Sjaak is the ultimate long distance rider who likes a challenge. If you check out his website at http://r1goesextreme.com/, there are stories about his trips. Some of those trips were 3-5 years in length while he was riding the globe. He has DVD's, books and other promotional items for sale to help raise funding to keep the ride fueled. Think about him the next time you need something unique for a motorcycle riding gift.

I so wished I could of been there.

I was in Milford OH for our Confirmation Class retreat.

Didn't see daylight until Sunday afternoon @ 2:00pm.

Aw well - glad all of you got to go and the weather was more presentable.

I arrived around 10:30 on Saturday and the place was already packed.
Was seriously amazed to see the number of Teneres running around there.
Mine is blue with Missouri tags, Yamaha OEM panniers, NC taller windshield, and a well worn black nylon bag strapped to the rear rack.
Plain Jane. No stickers, no farkles.

I recorded Sjaak's speech at the awards dinner. Great speech with lots of laughs.

The video was poor as the lighting was very dim but I used his speech as a sound track behind still pictures that I took during the trip. I think everyone there had a great time. I know that I did. I'll be there again next year.
