Sharing this post that i have made 0n the UKGSER site http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/418807-Mirror-Stem-Rust

As per title, bike is 14mth old Ze, went for a ride this morning and i noticed bubbling paint never a good sign so gave it the fingernail treatment and the paint lifted away revealing rust underneath. Both mirrors affected with the right being the worst. Had a look over on the this forum and a few guys had rust around the frame plug on the left side ran my hand round it and yep paint came away, very disappointing TBH, always washed down after a ride and had ACF50 applied because of the spokes issue.
So i will have to drop by the dealer and see what they say, would think they will sort it right ?
Took the bike in and awaiting a response.

I have identical rust issues (mirrors and frame). The bike is booked in with the dealer for an "end of warranty check" later this week. I will be highlighting both of these for action.

On mine if you remove the frame plug the inside of the tube is bare metal so when the plug is in and water gets behind it it gets under the paint and works outward. If its the same on all bikes everyone should take out the plugs and spray/paint some primer and paint in the tube before the rust has got hold.

ie do it when new. !!

There is not many things Yamaha got wrong on the S10 but the frame plug rust is One as it seems its a fault found on many of our bikes..

My local dealer has just supplied a new pair of mirrors under warranty. They are also going to take the bike in, remove the crash bars and treat the rust and repaint the area of the frame. I have also been promised a loan of an XSR700 for 2 days. ::012::

I shall be taking them some donuts.
