So, it's fall and time to see some Sierra colors. Fall is my favorite time to ride. Cool weather, roads unclogged. We planned on heading up to Burney Falls to the ADV rider Fall Colors Ride put on by Gilla Funk. Jason and I work in the same ER. As we had been getting pounded at work for several weeks we were ready to get the hell outta Dodge!!!

So, 1st....the packing. As this was my 1st camping trip with the S10 it was a bit of a learning experience.

.

So I headed over to Jay's (Jason's) in Dixon to hook up. He's the young tough guy, I'm the old wimpy guy. Good to have someone around with some energy.... ::025::

Jay putting some finishing touches on his DL650. He did a nice job custom painting/powder coating and farkling it. He also has a sport bike and a Harley but I convinced him to try an Adventure Tourer. He hasn't ridden the other bikes much since. >:D

Headed out 113, I-5 and Hwy 70.

Ended up taking Lower Honcut Rd to LaPorteRd. This is a great road that climbs into the foothills. Rough, lottsa corners. Then hooked up to Laporte-Quincy Rd. This is a GREAT road. Smooth, nice corners....and Deer EVERYWHERE!! ??? Ended up slowing down to about 40mph to prevent impacts.

Every campground we went by was closed... :mad:

As it was starting to get late we decided to try and find a cabin around Lake Almanor.

Found this place...

We got settled in

Lake Almanor humor..

Drank some beer...well, actually, a LOT of beer.... ::003::

Artsy sunset shot...

We BBQ'd the Steaks and potatoes, drank some more beer and settled in for the night.

Skunk? ???
Yep. Bought during a drunken stumble through Jackson Hole last June. The furrier had some pretty cool stuff. Couldn't fit the Grizzly on the bike so settled for a skunk..... ::025::

Next day we rolled outta bed. Jay was taking a shower and came out with this unit which had crawled out of the shower drain when he turned it on...

???

To his credit Jay did NOT (he claims) shriek like a girl although it did occur to him.... ::025::

Being hardy adventure riders we stongly considered putting her back in the drain to be enjoyed by the next customer... ::024::

but eventually put her outside where it was 33 degrees. She pretty much slowed down after that...

Got all packed up again and headed to Susanville to hit the Black Bear Diner....which had burnt to the ground earlier this year.... :mad:

Oh well, snagged some breakfast elsewhere and headed North on Hwy 44.

Neato contrails

Rolled up to Hat Creek. Nice area. Campground closed.... :mad:

Jay's the good photographer. All the good pics are his.... ::025::

Headed on up 44 toward Burney Falls...

Got to Burney Falls and got camp set up...

Casa DaFoole...

Skunk helps me find it at night.... ::025::

House o' Jay...

Picked up some chicken and corn in town.

Fire roasted...YUM!

Jay mowing down his corn in a drunken stupor... ::025::

Watched the fire die down and the temps dropped... Off to bed.

Got up to 33 degrees. Cranked up a fire, had some coffee and waited for the sun to get higher.

Finally got over 45 degree and we headed into Burney for some breakfast.

Here's as good as anywhere...

We each ordered up something light....

Down the road we go to Lassen National Park via Hwy 44 and A21

Lottsa trees...

Stopped at this rest stop...

....where I was reminded of yet another reason I love my Tenere' as Jay had to tighten his chain...

Jay enjoying himself.... ::025::

On we go....

Up to Lassen...

Climbing...

Sadly I didn't get a whole lot of images of the park as I have been up there many times and didn't want a whole bunch of repeat pics....

Decided to head back to the barn as it was almost 4pm and night (and the deer) would be popping up soon...

Maybe time to clean the windshield.... ::025::

Oh yeah...a few fall colors..... :)

Got back to camp and Jay went to get wood. Now, being the young studly guy, he of COURSE had to get more wood than me....and he did! 4 bundles... ::025::

So, pics became sparse although we had a great BBQ rib dinner, a LOT of beer, fire and manly talk. Just what the Doctor ordered!!

Headed back the short way home the next day as Jay had to get home early.... :(

Thanks again, Jay Until next time...

What is the pink... thing... hanging off your bike?
::025::

A few years back another buddy and I went up into Canada. After doing laundry one day we ended up with this pink thong in our dry cloths. As neither of us wore pink thongs (mine are black, of course...) and HE was married, (and thus would not be able to explain a pink thong on his bike) I decided that this thong was a war trophy (of some sort) and it imperative that it accompany me on further rides.

Yep, I'm weird..... ::008::
