Matte black side panels - Different than the black ones from the shows?

Is it just me, or are our USA matte black side panels different from the ones that we saw at the motorcycle shows?
I seem to remember them being solid black and a rougher texture as I was concerned about being able to paint them if we wanted to.
The ones that we got on our new bikes are smooth and not a solid black, but a matte finish.

I like the ones we got much better than the ones I remember in my mind from the shows.

Am I crazy, does anyone else remember them different?

Maybe they were painted to mock up the black you were going to get, rather than unpainted.?

Just a possibility.

I think you are right SpeedStar, I also remember them with a rougher texture. I think these look better too and easy to paint. ;D

I was also told Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back that the blue in Europe is not the blue we where going to get.... That's why I ended up with the black...... Do you guys think its the same viper metallic blue, or different than the Euro bikes ?

the demo bikes had painted panels, we took the one we had here apart to check some things out (since it was here O) and to take some measurements and the panels were painted over silver panels
