A quick mod for those of us who prefer paper maps...

Maybe it's a sickness but I like to carry the most detailed paper maps that I can find for a particular ride. Depending on my destination and route I might have 7 or 8 maps and wanted a place to keep them from getting all torn up along the way. Those of you that like those GPS things, please pay no attention to this.

Mounting stainless steel footman loops on the panniers is common practice to strap down tents or dry bags...silicone sealant is always a good idea.

Then a little heavy nylon fabric and a sewing machine turns out a custom fit map pocket under the lid of each pannier attached with the footman loop mounting bolts.

I am a GPS user but also like to carry paper maps, my tank bag has a clear window for viewing maps but have to make sure there is no map in the window when it rains because it leaks and the map would get ruined quickly.

I always put my maps into a plastic bag before putting them into the map pocket on the tank bag. Has kept them dry during numerous days of heavy rain.
