At this point, it was either untrue (the rep was incorrect or disingenuous) or Yamaha delayed/canceled the recall sometime after the time the person was told. I personally don't believe the person who reported it on the forum (I won't go into names) was lying and anyone personally attacking that person should be ashamed of themselves.

Or as checkwrecks cautioned last month:

The one thing I will caution to not fixate on is a possible release date. I've seen these things accelerate in time and I've seen them suddenly delayed by staff suddenly needing to work on something else. IF this is going to be a recall, the Government office we seem to be waiting on is very thin-staffed.

Caught a whisper at the dealer today from the regional rep. Wouldn't say much or really acknowledge, just said "delay due to parts shortage", then walked off.

I almost wrote in my post above that sometimes recalls are put off due to labor or parts shortage as long as there problem isn't a significant threat of customer injury.

I would like to see this whole thread erased, the other hard start recall thread erased, as well as the fire thread. No use debating on fantasy. Move on to real discussion.
If and when a recall happens we can then decide what course of action to take.
I'd agree.

If we are to believe an NDA prevents photos of a burnt S10 from being posted, why then can details of private correspondence from Yamaha be splattered around with impunity. 1st of Feb has been and gone, but hey I guess it's all been delayed...

Yamaha will be announcing that I will be riding for them some time in the future in the Moto GP, It should be announced this Friday but the announcement may be delayed, if not this Friday possibly the next... or the one after that...

These threads are not going anywhere. There is a real issue, and I have no reason to believe Yamaha is not aware of it (they do monitor this forum!), nor do I doubt they are working on a fix.

It seems apparent that Yamaha is working on something related to the hard start. One member had a dealer tell them a recall was coming. Another member had Yamaha tell them a recall was coming. A third member had a Yamaha rep say something about a parts shortage when asked about the recall. Three separate members in very different parts of the country, yet all three have heard statements giving credibility to the fact that a fix could be on the way.

I think you and iClint just don't want to make apologies when the fix comes out.

I'll happily sit down and eat a big bowl of "I told you so". Unfortunately though an NDA will prevent me from posting pictures of the grand occasion, but I will be able to tell you all about it great detail.

Wouldn't a magazine like cycle world be interested in a story of a bike that caught on fire and a supposed recall coming?

Probably not. Bikes, cars, and other gas engine vehicles catch fire at a surprising rate.

Yeah, my 91 Pontiac Bonneville caught fire going down interstate 70 in Kansas and none of the auto mags were interested in writing a story about it. ;D To add insult to injury, I didn't even get a new Pontiac from GM.

A buddy of mine is a fireman. With the 97 thru 2004 Ford F150's, when they were called out for an actual fire they would always bet on cause prior to arriving. Over time they couldn't just say Ford F150 as it was almost always the case but they had to guess what color Ford F150. Apparently, lots of F150's caused a lot of house fires.

LOL Pontiac Fieros too. Cool little cars but with the engine in the back people wouldn't check for loose stuff or the oil level.

:D Sounds like my recent job interview I went to one month and one week to today.
I was told "we will contact you in two weeks with an answer yes or no".
No integrity in hiring managers anymore. Just send me a form letter with FU on it and I'd be happy. I send out individually typed thank you letters for rejections.
