Major seat issue

Hello Folks,

Just got back from a long-ride. About 6,000 miles and have a major chaffing problem from the seat. I'm not sure if it's my boney butt or the texture of the seat. I'm used to long-rides on sport touring bikes so I'm used to seat time. This seems to be a different problem for me. First of all for me, it seems the seat is a little wide. My other issue is the seat covers texture. Has anyone else had this problem? Other than the seat issue, the Tenere preformed exceptionally well in some pretty extreme conditions.

Yankee,
I had it too, on my last bike, a V-Strom. Had a custom seat made by a guy in our state (WA). Didn't take me long on the Tenere to go back for another one. I guess for me, if I am going to have a bike, I need to be able to stand (actually sit) to ride the thing for long distances. $500-600 for custom seat...problem solved... never think about my butt anymore when riding. My guy is a long way from you, but I am sure you can get recommendations for someone in your area.

Yep the OEM seat arrangement is a bit 'firm' on my 2014 model too.

So I ordered a set of Sargent seats which are a little lower slightly narrower and hopefully a bit softer

I'll report back when tney arrive, production of S10 seats has apparently been delayed due to demand for seats for GS's !...bloody typical eh ::010::

Welcome on, yank. It would appear that you are a new member to the Forum. when you get the chance, please post under Member Intros so the rest of the folks don't miss you.

Regarding the seat, numerous members have had numerous issues. My only comment is that the 2013 model seat is softer (for MY butt) than the original 2010. I've had both. The seat seems to have a different effect on different people.

Anyway, ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Thanks for the offer to try the aftermarket seats PowersUSA.. I think I'm just going to send my seat down to Frank Turner (greatdaytoride.com) He did my ST1300's seat and it was a total transformation. The S10's seat is a little wide for me and I have to admit, a little hard for this old guy. I gave the S10's stock seat 20,000 miles to break in but I give up.

The stock seat is fine for me, it's the texture that rubs me raw. I find that a under armor style under garment solves the problem almost completely. A Seat Concepts replacement didn't work for me, sat me up higher and farther back. They do sell a seat cover that just replaces the OEM though, easy fix if you didn't want to do racin' undies.

I also had that problem with my 2012 OEM seat. Like sitting on sand paper. You might try a local auto upholstery shop. One near me made and installed this cover for $35.
