Wondering if anyone has direct experience with this:

1. Does the Madstad bracket conflict with the mounting position of the SW Motech GPS mount?

2. Is the Madstad stable without the crossbar installed?

3. Anyone have any luck eliminating buffeting with the Madstad and OEM screen?

Cheers

I'll take a stab, since I had one for a while...

1. As far as I can tell, not if you don't use the crossbar, and its an option at purchase...

2. I tried it without when I was experimenting with angles, and it seemed fine

3. For me, kind of. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam...I could find a mostly quiet pocket of air when I ran the Madstad in the high mount position, and the stock shield all the way up and back, but the lack of airflow was brutal in the heat here...it would be a much better combo in the winter.

I've mounted the GPS on the Madstad crossbar.. I'm using a RAM U bracket.

With the stock screen in its highest position, it's been very good at eliminating buffeting.

Thanks for the replys guys. Finally got in touch with Madstad and they don't recommend mounting the bracket without the cross bar. In retrospect I would have bought the Madstad bracket and mounted the GPS cradle on the crossbar. Oh well, looks like I'm in the market for a tall screen or continue with ear plugs.

Maybe you could sell your SW-motech mount and buy the Madstad??
On a side note, I have ridden many bikes and have never had one that blocked all of the wind. I use earplugs all the time, kinda like ATGATT. ::025::

Of course I already have some hearing problems and Tinnitus, so I'm just trying to save what little I have left..

I have the Madstad bracket and the OEM screen and I have no buffeting. It is in the most upright position though, but I really like my set up.

Yeah, I may sell the SW Motech bracket and get the Madstad. I currently wear earplugs but I'm considering getting a Bluetooth Com, so getting rid of buffeting and ear plugs is high on my agenda.

I understand the Bluetooth, I would like to have one my self. I do have speakers in my helmet and listen to music while I'm wearing earplugs.
It is not the best quality, but not bad either. ::025::

Good luck

With a good bluetooth system. like the new Scala Rider G9 and a good windscreen like the MRA Vario, plus Wasp's adjuster bracket, I listen to music from my phones' MP3 player whilst wearing earplugs and it sounds great. It didn't sound so great with my previous G4, but the G9 is much improved. Also, I swear that the music sounds better with my earplugs in that it does with no earplugs, as they seem to filter out the wind noise.

Hi Ollie - I've the Madstad and use the stock screen in warm weather and the tall oem in winter. They work great for me. Since we're neighbours, give a shout and you can try it out. You'd have to bring your seat since mines in Cali at Mayers for a re-do. I wear plugs all the time and if slabing it on Interstates I wear Etymotic earphones for mp3's. I got the crossbar and use the RAM u-bolt for my Montana. Great setup for me at 6'4".

A quick side-note regarding music/ear plugs/etc - There's a company called Earinc (www.earinc.com) that fabricates custom molded monitors that work great for
isolating noise and providing quality tunes without having the source volume knob turned to 11. I bought the iPlugz model and really enjoy the isolation without
blaring tunes... FWIW, they make a bunch of different models. I too suffer from tinnitus and am trying to save what little hearing I have so these really help!

Thanks for the kind offer Mark. I think I'm out for the Madstad at this point and in for a taller shield, since I don't want to get rid of the SW Motech GPS bracket.

Kind of a side question here... I have the same set up (madstad full up and back 20 degrees or so) and was wondering if you find that at near full lock in either direction you are hitting the oem screen?

I have my GPS set up with the ram mount on the handle bars. I have a small camera case set up on the bar on the bracket. But I am certain that my garmin street pilot would fit without a problem. My vision is such that my GPS has to be closer. ah getting old ::025:: beats the alternative.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm hitting the oem screen with my hand guards when I try to go lock to lock. This happens when I have it full up and tilted back 20-30 degrees or so, which is perfect for me. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
