Well just a quick update,i fitted a Rapid Bike Easy fueling module at the weekend it goes between the Lambda sensors and the ECU and what i difference it has made to the bike, the lurching has all but completely gone,a vast improvement in all the lowdown range.I can hold a steady throttle at 1900-2000 rpm with not surging/lurching at all and i can ride through built up areas at 30mph in 4th gear with no issues. The bike is now a pleasure to ride, this is with Arrow Headers,Akrapovic Can,and an ECU unleashed map. :) :) :)

When I did my TB synced at about 12k km, I found that the barb fittings were greasy due to oil accumulation. I then shot a few burst of Carb cleaner fluids into it, hooked up the DIY manometer and let run.

Try clearing up the barb fittings and see if that helps.
Mine were wet also but it seemed more like gas than oil. I am not sure why these would be wet though, perhaps 3/4 turn out is too rich for our bikes?

I also found the vacuum cap that goes on the right side TB barb cracked and deteriorating. I replaced the cap with a 1/8" rubber vacuum cap from the auto parts store. The left side hose is just 1/8" vacuum hose. I recommend you check and replace both the cap and hose regularly. For the left side, I would use 1/8th inch ID Tygon or Viton fuel hose and a regular 1/8" inch ID vacuum cap for the right side. If you can find a tygon or Viton vacuum cap, that would be even better and should last a really long time.

Back the right air screw out 3/4 of turn, then balance the throttle bodies with the left air screw only. Fixed!
Hey up, I'm new to tenere ,I have a 2012 with rs4 Yoshi and keep and k and n filter, this bike runs like a pig in comparison to my etv1000 aprilia,,I bought this tenere after tests raved about it ,after 500 miles if I had known it was this bad I would have saved my money.Don't go getting all artsy , I'm saying it like it is.I turned air screws out three quarters and balanced tb,s , I'm not numb and have been working on bikes for long long time.I'm amazed that a big company can put a bike running as unhappy as this on the market. My old capo will run rings round this bike in most departments, the big plus for me is that although it weighs near as damn it the same, the yam feels 100 kilos lighter and I can't believe how easy it is to put on stand and to move it around. Please advise as I bought this so that when I'm touring Europe I'm not holding my breath when I switch ignition on (Italian electrics) mind you the capo has took me round Europe twice and never missed a beat,,I want to love this tenere so please help the relationship before I put in for divorce.thanks in advance TommyTickle

have you checked the basics? Plugs, coils sticks etc? Just check those then do the TB sync again, people have found doing it the second time would help a lot. Also, do you know if anything was done to the bike before your ownership?

Ya, if you wanted a power-house, you bought the wrong bike!
If you wanted a good overall and reliable bike, the Tenere fits that bill!

You're not talking smoothness are you? as you have a 2012 and the old clutch basket design (vibrations)

All of these posts, yet not once has anyone mentioned the root cause and solution to 90% of what riders are calling a problem. ::)

Stop wasting your time and money doing things that are unrelated to the issue.

Remove nearly all of the slack in the throttle cables using the adjuster nuts inside the sleeve. Done.

Most of what some of you believe is a fueling issue is just the nature of throttle by wire and too much play in the cables.

Mine definitely was a fueling issue perhaps due to the ECunleashed mapping the previous owner had done to it,no amount of cable fiddling would get rid of it until i fitted the plug and play Rapid Bike Easy box of tricks,it has transformed the low down tractability of the bike,i was on the verge of getting rid of the bike due to the problems around 1800-2100 rpm range but now i'm keeping it and have even ordered a revised clutch basket for it :)

Seems to me the 100 pound difference in the referenced bikes could very well be the issue. And the Aprilla is just made to be quick, the Tenere isn't.

I think I'd have to disagree. I made the adjustment on the cable sleeve to the max. Still a bunch of slop on the throttle tube. A good 1/4" at this point.
I've had 1 lurchy throttle event since I've had the bike (yesterday) and only during the morning ride th the VA hospital. On the return trip no issue to note?
I'm guessing it's a failing battery.
The bike is an 012 purchased 1 month ago w/ 3400miles.
Is there another cable adjustment at the TB's ? Hope so.
Thanks for the reply, G.
