Not really... But thats about how much weight I've lost.

Earlier this year I had to go to the doc and he basically told me I was tubby. I tipped the scales at 256lbs - given that I'm only 5'7", I was getting more round than tall.

I decided I wanted to make changes so I started watching what I eat and getting outside a little and my goal would be to get under 200lbs. For me that seemed like an unreachable goal but I was determined.

Today I woke up and weighed in at 199.0 lbs. The changes really werent that hard to make and I feel so much better. When I carry the big 50lbs bags of dog food for my pup I realize that I was carrying even more than that around on my body all the time. Its really no wonder I had so many aches and pains all the time. My body was even trying to tell me I was a lard ass.

Heres to keeping it off and losing another 20 ::008::

Good for you. I'm a medical person (xray tech) and I think obesity is killing more people than cigarettes ever did. Nearly all our body systems are effected by carrying to much weight. Wish you continued success!

I'm the same height as you. I weigh 170 lbs. Wait till you get even lower in weight. It will be like the clutch mod and ECU update at the same time!
::26::
Congrats by the way on the accomplishment.

Good for you. Hopefully this thread will be my inspiration. Are you going to discuss what changes you made in diet and lifestyle?

For me, it all comes back to making the choice to do it EVERY day. EVERY meal. EVERY workout. Every time you do something you're deciding to be healthy or be lazy. Its not hard to make the good choices when you're making them one at a time.

I loosely followed Marks Daily Apple. It is essentially a Paleo diet which is an adaptation of Atkins. The goal to lose weight is to keep your daily carbs under 80-100 grams depending on activity level. You've got to give up on bread and starches. There are tons of Paleo recipes out there, though. You can just search Paleo or I can even share my google drive recipe folder with you if you want. If you read it and you think it will work for you, go for it. I highly recommend it. The only adjustment I made was giving myself a cheat meal every other Friday. I got to a point where I can live without the cheat meal.

Just make sure whatever you do, do something that you can commit to. Make adjustments if you need to, but be honest with yourself when you do. You're the only one that'll get cheated.

That's awesome, and congratulations!

I had a similar, but not as drastic trip to the doc in January.

Basically, it went like this:
"You're cholesterol is through the roof and you're Pre-Diabetic. With a family history of heart disease, while only 41 you're not critical yet, but you need to work on this now or Zocor is in your near future and insulin won't be far behind it."

I was 6' and carrying 200 pounds on (what should've been) a slender build.

Went back last week to get the five month recheck, and cholesterol is normal, my weight is now 175, and my pants have dropped from a 38 (trending toward 40) to a 34. I haven't been in a 34 in 20 years! Blood sugar is perfect.

The initial plan was to follow the Mayo Clinic Mediterranean Diet, which I did for 2 months, then I was chatting with my doc (who is a health-nut...and my next-door neighbor) when he shared that he and his wife were vegetarian. They still eat some dairy and occasionally fish - and if I could do that my numbers would almost certainly get where they need to be without prescription assistance.

So I said what-the-hell and gave it a try. It's a pretty easy adjustment actually - lots of veggies (obviously), lots of whole grain foods, fruit, etc... We still have fish once per week, and will splurge with a good steak, or burger, or whatnot on special occasions (my first splurge will be next week for my 42nd birthday) which the doc has signed off on. He said it's what you do 95% of the time that matters, not the occasional indulgence.

YMMV but it has worked fine for me - and I feel better than I have in years...

Whorepedo, that's an incredible achievement! Congrats!!! ::008:: I recently joined a weight loss effort at work and dropped 30 lbs. It's amazing what a difference it makes. I hope I can keep it off.

I made a similar change the first of the year and gave up meat. Still eating fish occasionally, but otherwise no meat since the first of the year. I thought it was going to be really hard to do, but it has not been. I actually feel better and have lost weight as well. Never really told anyone my plans, just quietly did it and my kids started to bug me about why and told them just to see if I could. Well now, I have discovered that veggies are my friend and fruit is really sweeter than I ever realized. I know the challenges of losing weight, lost 45 lbs once and put it all back on. Trying to lose it again, but harder as I have gotten older. Glad to hear of your success, keep on it. You will be a new person with energy and vigor.

I to made the change. I am 51 when I turned 50 I was fat and worn out all the time. Went to the doctor in sept of 2012 and weight 212 and I am 5'11. My blood pressure was 180 over 119 pulse was 118 setting still. I also was told I had diabetes which was at 255 I didn't know what that meant but doc said it needed to be under 125.. I was put on diabetes med. and high blood pressure med. long story short I started eating right all veg. And lots of chicken and fish joined a gym, worked out 6 days a week for 1.5 hours and lost down to 189 in 3 months. Doc took me off all meds. I continue this routine for another 3 months and on May 23 2013 had my 6 mouths check up and everything was great. My weight was 170. I felt so good after a few months I knew I wanted to start something new. I had not riden motorcycles since college and was not interested until I went to a boat show in Louisville Ky and saw a Can Am Spyder. I was sold and the next week I brought a RT limited for me and wife. She loved it and with 3 wheels I was more secure with 2 up. Then I purchased a Honda nc700 but it just was not going to do what I want to do so traded for a ST in early May looking forward to meetin you guys at future rallies and events. Can't come to Colorada because of family vacation, but hope to be in ga. In August. This was all possible because of a lifestyle change not a diet.

Congrats Terry. It is a life change. When I changed from working graveyard to being self employed, I went from 295 down to 250ish pretty easily. But the 250 area has been hard to break. For the last two years I've been eating two meals a day, 3 onces of protien and 3 ounces of veggies or salad and minimizing carbs to the point of zero almost all the time. I allow a cheat day once a week, but don't get carried away. I weighed 245 this morning. I've been down to 243, but not below that. I had some travel and riding and was gone 4 days, doing a BBG ride on one of those days. Ate a modest mexican meal for dinner and enjoyed an actual breakfast one day, had a philly sandwich another. Nothing extreme. I gained 10 lbs in those 4 days. It took me two weeks to lose that 10 lbs again. Frankly, I didn't eat that much, just to many carbs.

I'm glad you're doing so well and applaud your efforts. I run/walk 3 miles every morning, (45 min) and work out in the gym 5 days a week (1 Hr+), and I miss eating the foods I like. I'm a good cook and we eat well, despite the limitations of the small portions and no carbs, but it still gets pretty boring. Most is steamed veggies and grilled meat or fish. It really doesn't matter how good the food is when the portion size is so small. I always want more. I'm always hungry.

Way to go Whorepedo ::012::

I am a Grok too and love the new paleo lifestyle .. or rather our 'original' lifestyle. When it comes to weight training, the Super Tenere is my new gym. Dropping it and lifting it, parking it on the center stand, riding it on sand .. ah the list is endless. What a healthy bike ;D

This was all possible because of a lifestyle change not a diet.

^^This says it all!^^
Absolutely - state of mind not just a diet. I'm about 30lbs lighter than I was a year ago and I probably need to drop another 10 lbs to be at my ideal weight. I've been following "Paleo Lite", which is my own invention - it's Paleo but I'm allowed alcohol. ::003::

There is a downside to losing weight though - it used to be a lot easier to get my bike up on the centre stand!!!
