So the seller of the 2014 just texted and has decided not to sell the bike. Guess I'm going with the 2012 or will look around a bit more. Or maybe I should take it as a sign, lol.
The force is strong with this one.... ::026::Sierra1 said:Be patient Padawan. A good bike, to you will come. Don't settle; learned my lesson that years ago.
Yes, they are different, but I haven't compared them enough to make an expert comment. I know they are set back about 10MM closer to the rider on the 14. I've read where it is a stronger bar than on the early models.smalls78 said:I wasn't aware of handlebar changes on the 2014+? I did notice an actual riser vs the one piece triple tree built in riser on the Gen 1 bikes. Are the handlebars different? I have compared and like others, noticed the Yamaha handlebars do have more of a sweep look rather than a motoX or even like the BMW GS Adventure. But....I like that sweep, especially coming from a cruiser bike.
Mine is a 13 and no issues but I would definitely be willing to pay the extra $580 for gen 2 !!!smalls78 said:Ok so here is where I'm at:
2012 Gen1 $8k - 13k miles, add ons: Touratech Zega Panniers, Seat Concepts seat, Madstad Bracket, Aftermarket windshield, Side wind deflectors, heated grips have been added, skid plate on.
2014 Gen2 $8k - 6500 miles, add ons: OEM yamaha luggage panniers - the rest is bone stock
So my thinking is this, the 2012 has items on it I will need on the 2014. Items include Seat Concepts, Madstad Bracket, Aftermarket windshield, Side wind deflectors. These total = $580. But...the 2012 has the Touratech pannier setup, which alone is around $1400, and I do like them. Also, regardless of which bike I get, I will be adding AltRider crash bar, Rox risers, and AltRider rear rack plate. This items will cost = $760.
My huge hang up is cruise control. I REALLY like it on my Harley. I know I will use it. I've investigated the Kaoko throttle lock, and if I go with the 2012 I will use this, but it's not the same I'm afraid. So it looks as if $580-$600 is what is holding me back from buying the 2014. Plus the $760 I will be spending in addition.
What would you do? Is cruise and a Gen2 worth $580?
That's how I've broken it down. Opinions respected. Thanks!
EDIT: found it. Thanks!lacofdfireman said:There is a 2014 on AdvRider in SC for $9k with every farkle imaginable including Jesse Luggage. It's a steal at his asking price. I've owned both a Gen 1 and Gen 2 and personally it's worth the extra money to upgrade to the newer model. Lots of refinements in the Gen 2 and believe me you want the electric cruise control if you ride any distance at all. It's Amazimg.
I can do $9k. I messaged the seller. Bike does have 27k miles, yet does retain YES warranty valid til 2020....that's crazy and certainly gives piece of mind.Crew Chief said:I agree. That looks like a good deal and isn't terribly far from from the OP. I just bought an identical bike with less miles (2200), but far less farkles and no warranty for just a bit less than that. If you could do that with your budget, it could be worthwhile. On the other hand if you're not in a hurry, I'm guessing that you will see more deals of that nature come up over the next few months. Bikes are not moving very well unless they are aggressively priced.
27K miles is nothing for this bike. As long as the regular maintenance has been done. I would question about the valve check, which is a 26K item. Most of the S10's will still be within tolerances, but some like mine, two of the exhaust valves were just a little out.smalls78 said:I can do $9k. I messaged the seller.
