After being forced to roll around in the dirt by a big Ford expedition, wondering if I need to replace my helmet. Wife wants me to buy a new one. I think it's fine. I really like this helmet. It's quiet and I like the visor. I would buy the same one again, but it's over $500. I use it for my Tenere, dirt bike, Goldwing, RZR, and quad. I broke two bones above my ankle and one in my wrist, but I didn't bang my head (at least not hard). I already have replacement screws but need to order flanges to connect shield and visor back...$5.15/pair.

they say ( manufactures ) that if drop it you should have it inspected by the manufacture or replace it.... also they recommend replace at 5 years old. the eps liner starts to get hard over time. if you have ever checked some ones really old helmet you will see this is true.... buy a new one , its the right thing to do..... you can display the old hat for nostalgias sake... I got 3 on display... they look brand new...

Keeping it is not an option. It has done it's job. Son #1 was unconscious and had a concussion, with hardly a scratch to the helmet. In the big scheme of things, what's a $500.00 helmet when you're going to spend $16,000ish on a new bike? Whisperquiet is right....get one just like it, you know it works.

I guess I just needed to hear it out loud. I'll tell my wife she can buy it for our 40th anniversary first of October. She didn't get me anything for my 60th birthday last week. Thanks for the good advice

I'm just glad you're not one of "those" that get the least expensive helmet they can find. barkingllizard is right.

And then take a saw or large wood bit to truly destroy the old one. If you want it as a decoration, rip out the foam to prevent it being used again.

Poor thing has done its job, take her out to the pasture.. :'(

One down side to buying expensive helmets, although if the accident was at the fault of the truck you could easily get the money to replace your gear.

We were in he middle of nowhere but the sheriff did catch up with both of us. I just happened to be at the hospital/clinic. No tickets were given. My insurance took care of me. My gear was totally unscathed before they cut it off of me. I stopped them when they were 12 inches up my sleeve. I could have sat up and just taken it off...anyhow, I was paid for everything.

That helmets a right off... It's done its job, sacrificed itself to save you from head injury...

Do the decent thing and retire it... It's fooked.

I wouldn't wear that again ...Ever.

Speaks volumes when he would rather use a popcorn bucket then the helmet sitting on his headlight, maybe it smells like caramel popcorn......

I used to keep all the old helmets on the wall above the door in the barn. The ones with crash damage were the lowest, closest to the door. They served as a good reminder that bad things can happen out there, try not to add another low helmet to the wall.

It's a good thing that future helmet considerations is among your most pressing concerns after having a crash.

Happy 60th and 40th.

When I totaled a wing hitting a deer my insurance limit on gear was $400 , the helmet was shot but the insurance Geico would not let me keep it, but that left me wondering why they made me keep the jacket and gloves that were also ruined.
